The role is central to maintaining the financial integrity of the facility, ensuring that creditors are paid accurately and on time, and that all financial transactions comply with relevant legislation and prescripts. Working within a busy public healthcare environment, the incumbent will be part of a team that supports the broader Supply Chain Management function, contributing to the smooth operation of hospital finances and the ability of the institution to deliver services without interruption.
To be considered for this post, applicants must hold a Senior Certificate or equivalent, with Mathematics and/or Accountancy as a passed subject. This educational foundation is essential because the work involves daily calculations, reconciliations, and the application of financial codes. In addition, the role requires appropriate and relevant experience in Creditors Maintenance, as well as hands-on experience with the Bas and Logis systems, which are the core financial and logistical platforms used within the provincial government. The ideal candidate will also bring strong analytical thinking, planning, and organisational skills, alongside a working knowledge of the ESL and EPS systems. Computer literacy in MS Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook, is a prerequisite, as is sound knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act, National Treasury Regulations, and other procurement and finance-related prescripts. Good interpersonal and communication skills are also vital, as the role involves liaising with suppliers, management, and colleagues to resolve queries and maintain smooth financial operations.
The main duties of this role are varied and detail-oriented. The successful candidate will be responsible for verifying and processing creditor payments within the required 30-day payment threshold, using both Logis and Bas. This includes applying and verifying the correct SCOA (Standard Chart of Accounts) allocations to ensure accurate financial classification. The clerk will also perform supplier reconciliations and maintain accounts, ensuring that all records are accurate and up to date. Document control is another key responsibility, along with the timeous resolution of supplier and management queries. Maintaining an accurate accounting system and a proper filing system is essential to support audit trails and accountability. Additionally, the post requires the incumbent to perform relief duties and assist with general tasks within the Supply Chain Management unit, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to support the wider team when needed.
This is an entry-level clerical post within the public service, offering a stable career path in government finance. It is important to note that no payment of any kind is required when applying for this position, and all applications must be submitted through the official online portal. The post is advertised as part of a provincial government circular, and the selection process will follow standard public service recruitment practices. This role is well suited to individuals who are meticulous, comfortable working with numbers and financial systems, and committed to upholding the principles of sound financial management in the public sector.
