This position offers an opportunity to serve as an Administration Clerk within the Policy and Procedure Coordination directorate at the National Head Office of the Department of Correctional Services. The role is specifically designed to act as a Disability Assistant to the Deputy Director: Policy Coordination, providing both administrative and personal support to enable the Deputy Director to carry out his duties effectively and independently. The successful candidate will play a key part in ensuring that reasonable accommodation is provided in the form of a personal assistive device, thereby supporting the Deputy Director’s full participation in all areas of his work. This is a unique role that combines administrative competence with a compassionate, service-oriented approach, and it operates within the broader framework of the Public Service Act.
To be considered for this post, applicants must hold a Grade 12 certificate or an equivalent qualification. While not a strict requirement, experience working with a person with a disability will be regarded as a distinct advantage, as it demonstrates a practical understanding of the support needs involved. Computer literacy is essential, as is a valid driver’s licence, since the role includes rendering driver services to the Deputy Director for official purposes. The ideal candidate will also possess a range of competencies and attributes, including knowledge and understanding of the Public Service legislation framework, sound job knowledge, and strong communication and interpersonal skills. Coordination abilities, commitment, discipline, and the capacity to access required information are equally important. The role demands flexibility, punctuality, respect, self-confidence, trustworthiness, self-motivation, and a compassionate nature, along with solid planning and organising skills.
The core duties of this position are multifaceted. The primary responsibility is to provide reasonable accommodation in the form of a personal assistive device to the Deputy Director, ensuring that he can work independently and participate effectively in all aspects of his professional duties. This includes rendering driver services for official travel, which requires a responsible and reliable approach. In addition, the incumbent will provide general administrative support, ensuring the effective flow of information and documents within the office. This involves capturing requisitions on the LOGIS system, obtaining quotations, and managing assets. These tasks require attention to detail, integrity, and the ability to work within established procedures. The role is therefore not only about personal assistance but also about maintaining efficient office operations and supporting the broader policy coordination function.
This vacancy is advertised as part of a Public Service circular, and appointment will be made under the provisions of the Public Service Act. The position is based at the National Head Office, and interested candidates should note that only online applications will be accepted, as emailed, posted, or hand-delivered applications will not be considered. This summary provides an overview of the role, but those who meet the qualifications and are passionate about supporting persons with disabilities in a government environment are encouraged to review the full vacancy details and apply through the official online portal. The role offers a meaningful chance to contribute to an inclusive workplace while developing administrative and coordination skills within a national government department.
