Beyond the formal qualification, the department is looking for a candidate with a solid understanding of clerical duties and practices, including the ability to capture data, operate a computer, and collect statistics. Familiarity with the legislative framework governing the Public Service is essential, as is a working knowledge of the procedures relevant to the working environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong numeracy, literacy, and language skills, along with effective presentation, decision-making, and computer literacy abilities. Good written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, flexibility, and sound planning and organising capabilities are also key to succeeding in this role. These competencies will enable the incumbent to handle the diverse demands of the position with accuracy and professionalism.

The core duties of this role are varied and require a proactive, organised approach. The incumbent will render general administration support services, which may include tasks such as record-keeping, document management, and coordinating administrative workflows. Additionally, the role involves providing supply chain clerical support services within the Chief Directorate, assisting with procurement-related processes and ensuring compliance with relevant procedures. Personnel administration clerical support is another key responsibility, which could involve assisting with staff records, leave administration, and other human resource-related clerical tasks. Furthermore, the position requires providing financial administration support services within the component, such as processing financial documents, assisting with budget monitoring, and maintaining accurate financial records. Each of these duties contributes to the overall efficiency and accountability of the department.

There are several important conditions attached to this vacancy. Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend interviews on a date and time determined by the department and must submit duly completed and signed vetting and supporting documentation within the timeframe communicated prior to the interview. Failure to provide these documents within the prescribed period, without reasonable justification, may result in the candidate being excluded from further consideration. All shortlisted candidates will also undergo two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise to determine suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements, and an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment. The selection process will be guided by the employment equity targets of the employing department, and by applying, candidates consent to the Western Cape Government contacting previous employers or managers for employment references, including checks relating to disciplinary records and reasons for leaving. This is a full-time, entry-level clerical role within the public service, offering a stable career path for those who meet the requirements and are committed to upholding the values of the department.
