This position offers an opportunity to serve as an Administration Clerk within the Provincial Head Office Human Resource Development component, based at Jeppe. The role is a core administrative support function within the Department of Community Safety, focused on ensuring that the day-to-day clerical and record-keeping operations of the unit run smoothly and in line with public service standards. The successful candidate will work in a structured environment where accuracy, confidentiality and reliability are essential, and where the ability to work independently and professionally is highly valued. The post is graded at the entry-level clerical scale and is suited to individuals who are detail-oriented, organised and committed to delivering quality administrative services.
Applicants must be South African citizens and able to provide documentary proof of citizenship at the interview stage. A Grade 12 certificate, Senior Certificate, NCV Level 4 or an equivalent qualification recognised at NQF Level 4 by SAQA is required. Relevant courses or training in the administrative field will be an added advantage. Candidates should be proficient in English and at least one other official language, with strong verbal and written communication skills. General computer literacy in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Office, MS PowerPoint and Outlook is essential. The department is looking for individuals who demonstrate accountability, credibility, sound planning and organisational skills, as well as problem-solving abilities. Interpersonal skills, customer focus, responsiveness and a willingness to work under pressure and beyond normal working hours are also important.
The core duties of the post involve performing administrative functions aligned to the unit’s objectives. This includes exercising proper control over emails and files, ensuring accurate record-keeping within the band, compiling minutes at meetings, and developing and monitoring databases relevant to the unit’s core functions. These responsibilities require a methodical approach and the ability to manage multiple tasks without compromising accuracy. The clerk will also be expected to handle correspondence and documentation in a manner that supports the broader human resource development mandate.
As with all public service recruitment, specific conditions apply. Applications must be submitted on the new Z83 form, with a comprehensive CV attached; only shortlisted candidates will need certified copies of qualifications. Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by a SAQA evaluation certificate. Shortlisted applicants will be required to undergo two pre-entry assessments, one practical and one integrity-based, and successful candidates will be subject to personnel suitability checks including vetting, criminal record, citizenship, credit and qualification verification. The department encourages youth, persons with disabilities, and candidates from Coloured, Indian and white population groups to apply, and a confirmation of disability from a registered medical practitioner must accompany such applications. The department reserves the right not to fill the post. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and applicants who do not receive feedback within three months may assume their application was unsuccessful.
