This position offers an opportunity to work as an Administration Clerk within the Eastern Cape Department of Health, based at one of several district offices, including the PHO in Zwelitsha supporting POC MIC and the Amathole, OR Tambo, and Nelson Mandela Bay District Occupational Care Centres. There are multiple posts available across these locations, and the successful candidate will form part of a team responsible for ensuring that the administrative backbone of the component, station, or unit functions efficiently. The role is ideal for someone who is organised, detail-oriented, and able to handle a variety of clerical and coordination tasks in a health service environment where accuracy and confidentiality are essential.

To be considered, applicants must be South African citizens and able to provide documentary proof of citizenship on the day of the interview. A Grade 12 Senior Certificate, NCV Level 4, or an equivalent qualification at NQF level 4 recognised by SAQA is required, and any relevant courses in the administrative or clerical field will serve as an added advantage. Candidates need to be proficient in English and at least one other official language, and should demonstrate strong general computer literacy across MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other MS Office tools. The department is looking for people who can work independently, act professionally and with accountability, and demonstrate credibility in their conduct. Good verbal and written communication, sound planning and organising abilities, administrative and problem-solving skills, and strong interpersonal relations are all important. A customer-focused attitude, responsiveness, and a willingness to work under pressure and beyond ordinary hours when required are also key attributes for this post.

The core duties of the Administration Clerk revolve around maintaining smooth administrative operations within the relevant component or unit. This includes ensuring that all administrative functions align with the core activities of the station, exercising proper control over emails and files, and keeping accurate records at all times. The role also involves compiling minutes during meetings and taking responsibility for the development and monitoring of databases that support the component’s core functions. These duties require someone who can manage multiple priorities, maintain meticulous records, and support the broader team with reliable administrative systems.

There are several important conditions attached to this vacancy. Applications must be submitted using the new Z83 form along with a comprehensive CV listing three reference persons and their contact details; certified copies of qualifications and other documents are only required from shortlisted candidates. Shortlisted applicants will also be required to undergo two pre-entry assessments, one practical exercise and one integrity or ethical conduct assessment, and their appointment will be subject to further personnel suitability checks, including security vetting, qualification verification, and criminal record checks. Reference checks will be conducted on nominated candidates. The department encourages females and people with disabilities to apply, and these groups are specifically requested to indicate their status in their applications. Any misrepresentation in application documents will lead to automatic disqualification or disciplinary action if already appointed. If applicants do not hear from the department within three months after the closing date, they should consider their application unsuccessful. The department also reserves the right to amend, review, or withdraw any advertised post in the best interest of the department.
