This position is for an Administrative Officer in Security Services, based at the Bedfordview centre, within the Corporate Services component, specifically the Facilities and Security unit. The role is an operational and supervisory one, centred on ensuring that all physical security measures at the premises are functioning effectively and that security service providers deliver the required standards. The officer will oversee access control, parking management, and the lost-and-found process, while also acting as a key link between management, security staff, and service providers. A strong emphasis is placed on maintaining strict confidentiality, as the role involves handling sensitive security information, surveillance matters, and incident reports.

To be considered, applicants must hold a minimum three-year National Diploma at NQF Level 6 in Security Management or Security Risk Management, alongside a PSIRA Grade B registration. At least two to three years of experience in a security management environment within the Public Service is required. Knowledge of the Minimum Information Security Standard (MISS) policy document, information security, and a sound understanding of security management are essential. The ideal candidate should be people-oriented and able to engage with various stakeholders. A valid driver’s licence would be an added advantage, though it is not a strict requirement.

The duties are wide-ranging and include monitoring physical security services, ensuring compliance with access control procedures, and communicating security instructions to supervisors as directed by the unit manager. The officer will also manage the lost-and-found storage area and keep accurate records of incoming, stored, and claimed items. A significant portion of the role involves processing auctions and extra security arrangements: compiling required documentation such as RLS01 and BOQ forms, facilitating security verification of auctioned vehicles, participating in auction planning and postmortem meetings, preparing reports, and ensuring that extra security personnel comply with all requirements. The officer will also handle security breach incidents by receiving reports, opening incident files, updating registers and weekly or monthly reports, conducting preliminary investigations, and escalating matters to risk management as directed. Additional duties include monitoring the physical and security surveillance helpdesk, overseeing service providers performing maintenance, and compiling communications on security matters. The role also requires enforcing compliance with relevant security acts, policies, and standards, submitting regular security reports, and maintaining a secure filing system for all security documentation. Secretariat services for security meetings are part of the role, with strict confidentiality required on all discussions and resolutions. The officer will also verify submitted security invoices, compile snag lists and completion letters, and supervise security officials within the section.

This is a permanent post graded at Level 07, and the employer is an equal opportunity, affirmative action organisation. Preference may be given to appointable applicants from underrepresented designated groups in line with the department's equity plan, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Shortlisted candidates will undergo screening and security vetting, including criminal record checks, citizenship status verification, creditworthiness checks, reference checks, and qualification verification. They must be available at the department's convenience and will need to submit certified copies of qualifications, identity document, and driver’s licence before the interview. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA, and applicants must ensure their online Z83 form is fully completed with a detailed CV containing at least three contactable references, as incomplete submissions will disqualify the application.
