The role forms part of the broader public service human resources environment and is responsible for providing administrative support to performance management processes, human resource development initiatives, and related clerical functions.

To be considered, applicants need an appropriate three-year undergraduate qualification at NQF level 6 in Human Resource Management, Training, Public Management, or Administration, as recognised by SAQA. Additional advantages include relevant PERSAL certificates, knowledge of the education sector, and familiarity with the legal framework that governs human resources. Candidates should possess strong planning and organisational skills, good verbal and written communication, and personal attributes such as honesty, integrity, professionalism, self-drive, and the ability to work well in a team.

The duties are wide-ranging. The successful candidates will provide human resource and performance management administration, including the administration of PMDS and IQMS performance management services. They will record, organise, store, capture, and retrieve correspondence and data, update registers and statistics, handle routine enquiries, and manage the component's filing system. They will also distribute documents, make photocopies, send and receive faxes, type basic letters, and maintain the incoming and outgoing register. Further responsibilities include liaising with internal and external stakeholders on procurement, obtaining quotations, completing procurement forms, controlling office stationery stock, maintaining the asset register, leave register, personnel records, and attendance register. The role also involves arranging travel and accommodation, capturing expenditure, checking subsistence and travel claims before submission to the manager, and handling telephone accounts and petty cash. In addition, the officers will allocate and ensure the quality of work, support personnel development, assess staff performance, and apply discipline where necessary.

The selection process includes a personnel suitability check covering criminal records, citizenship, financial and asset records, qualifications, and previous employment. Shortlisted candidates may also be required to undergo practical and integrity assessments. Applicants should note that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and those selected will be required to produce certified copies of their qualifications and relevant documents before the interview.
