This position offers an opportunity to contribute directly to the digital and professional development of the education sector within the Nelson Mandela Bay area. Operating under the NMB Education District Office, the Admin Officer for ICT and E-Learning is responsible for supporting the integration of technology and modern teaching practices across Education Development Centres. The role sits within a broader district framework aimed at improving school management and teacher effectiveness, and it requires a blend of administrative oversight, technical coordination, and people management. The successful candidate will act as a bridge between the district office and individual schools, ensuring that e-learning initiatives and development programmes are delivered effectively and that resources are properly managed.
To be considered for this role, applicants must hold an appropriate three-year undergraduate qualification at NQF Level 6 in Information Technology, Information Systems, or Computer Science, as recognised by SAQA. This academic foundation must be paired with a minimum of three to five years of relevant, hands-on experience in a similar environment. Essential attributes include strong computer literacy, a valid driver’s licence, and a genuine willingness to travel, as the role requires visiting various centres and schools. The position demands excellent planning and organisational abilities, sound verbal and written communication skills, and a high degree of honesty and integrity. The ideal candidate is self-driven, works well within a team, and possesses a working knowledge of clerical duties, data capture, and statistics collection. While not mandatory, prior knowledge of the education sector will be viewed as a distinct advantage.
The core duties of this post are multifaceted. The Admin Officer will assist in training school and district management teams, provide support for continued professional teacher development, and help manage the delivery of programmes at the district level. A significant portion of the role involves supervising subordinates, which includes managing daily performance, ensuring timely performance assessments, and developing job descriptions, work plans, and Personal Development Plans. The officer is also responsible for the management, maintenance, and safekeeping of assets, ensuring the team produces high-quality work consistently, and resolving motivational or control issues with minimal guidance. Delegating tasks based on individual potential, while providing guidance and training opportunities, is a key expectation.
This is a permanent post graded at Level 07, and the successful candidate will be appointed subject to a twelve or twenty-four month probation period. All shortlisted candidates will undergo personnel suitability checks, including criminal record and qualification verification, as well as pre-entry assessments covering technical and ethical conduct. The department is committed to achieving Employment Equity targets, and while applications from all racial groups are welcome, preference will be given to candidates from designated groups in line with the departmental equity plan.
