This opportunity is for an Admin Clerk specialising in asset management, based in Johannesburg and positioned within the Supply Chain Management directorate of a South African government department. The role is central to ensuring that the department's assets, equipment, and supplies are accurately recorded, properly maintained, and efficiently distributed to the components and individuals who need them. Working as part of a broader administrative team, the clerk will support the entire asset lifecycle, from acquisition and registration through to disposal and archiving, while also providing essential logistical and secretariat services. This is an entry-level clerical post within the public service and offers a structured working environment guided by legislative frameworks and departmental procedures.

Candidates must possess a Matric certificate or an equivalent relevant qualification, together with at least one year of working experience in a Supply Chain Management environment. The role requires a basic understanding of supply chain practices and duties, data capture, computer operation, and the collection of statistics. Familiarity with the legislative framework governing the public service and with standard work procedures in the working environment is also essential. Strong computer literacy in MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email is required, along with good planning, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. The ability to work effectively in a team is important, and a valid driver's licence is a prerequisite.

The core duties of the position encompass several key areas. In asset management, the clerk will compile and maintain asset records and databases, check and issue furniture, equipment and accessories to components and individuals, identify redundant or non-serviceable items for disposal, and verify the asset register. In demand and acquisition support, the clerk will update and maintain a supplier database, register suppliers on Logis or similar systems, request and receive quotations, capture specifications on the electronic purchasing system, place orders, and issue or receive bid documents. The role also involves providing secretariat or logistical support during bid consideration and contract conclusion processes, as well as compiling draft documents. In addition, the clerk must render effective filing and record management services by opening and closing files according to the record classification system, filing and storing documents, tracing and retrieving files electronically or manually, and completing index cards. Logistical support duties include placing orders for goods, receiving and verifying deliveries from suppliers, capturing goods in registers, issuing goods to end users, and maintaining the goods and supplier registers. Finally, the clerk will process documents for archiving or disposal, including electronic scanning, sorting and packaging files, and compiling lists of documents to be archived.

Applicants should note that this is a public service position with specific application and selection conditions. The department encourages youth, people with disabilities, and candidates from designated groups including coloured, Indian and white applicants to apply. Applications must be submitted on the prescribed Z83 form along with a comprehensive CV, and only shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide certified copies of qualifications. The department reserves the right not to make an appointment, and due to the high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. If no response is received within three months of the closing date, applicants should consider their application unsuccessful.
