This position offers an opportunity to work as a Business Analyst within the Business Systems and Technology Department (BSTD) of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), based in Pretoria. The core purpose of the role is to deliver comprehensive, end-to-end business analysis services to various SARB departments, helping them identify business problems and needs, determine appropriate solutions, and enable meaningful improvements in organisational processes. It is a role that sits at the intersection of business operations and technology, requiring a blend of analytical rigour, stakeholder engagement, and practical solution design.

To be considered, candidates must hold an Honour’s degree in Information Technology, along with a relevant Business Analysis certificate. In addition, applicants need between five and eight years of experience working within a business analysis environment. Beyond these formal requirements, the SARB looks for a range of professional competencies, including industry, business and organisational awareness; a commitment to continued learning and professional development; quality assurance knowledge; continuous improvement skills; and an understanding of business transformation and optimisation. Strong elicitation techniques, familiarity with business analysis practices, methodologies and tools, realisation and testing practices, and IT domain management knowledge are also essential. These skills enable the analyst to work effectively across complex projects and to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for driving business analysis initiatives from initiation through to implementation, typically on projects of low to medium risk with a cycle of up to twelve months. This includes facilitating workshops independently and consulting with business owners and stakeholders to define problems and identify business requirements. The role involves reviewing business processes and procedures, analysing business needs and associated data, identifying and assessing possible solutions, and defining the associated requirements. The analyst will also elaborate on the scope and feasibility of solutions, develop supporting business cases, manage change requirements and specifications, and investigate problems by interacting with users, developers and other stakeholders. Additional duties include developing manuals and plans, presenting training courses in support of implementation, and staying abreast of changes to analytical tools and methodologies. The analyst is expected to identify opportunities to improve and standardise work processes and to apply these improvements in their own work.

In line with the SARB’s commitment to diversifying its workforce, preference will be given to suitable candidates from designated groups, and people with disabilities are welcome to apply. The SARB offers remuneration and benefits that are commensurate with the level of the position and in line with the market, with the final appointment level depending on the successful applicant’s competence and experience. This is a professional role for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities within a dynamic central bank environment.
