Requirements
An appropriate minimum qualification (MBChB/MBBCh) that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner. Proof of current registration with HPCSA as an independent medical practitioner for the year 2026/2027. BLS. Ability to work commuted overtime to ensure continuous and uninterrupted patient care.
Duties
Interview, examine, investigate, diagnose and manage patients in O&G (antenatal, intrapartum, postpartum care and gynaecology). Provide 24-hour clinical care, including labour ward and emergency duties. Perform relevant clinical procedures safely (e.g assisted deliveries, manual vacuum aspiration) as per competency and departmental policy. Departmental & Administrative: Attend meetings such as mortality and morbidity, near-miss and other quality assurance forums. Complete medico-legal documents (e.g., death certificates, clinical notes) accurately and timeously. Ensure accurate clinical record keeping and adherence to National Core Standards and internal protocols. Participate in clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives. Work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams with nurses, midwives, registrars, anaesthetists and other departments. Supervise and support junior staff (interns, community service doctors) as required. Engage in departmental teaching, training and research activities when applicable. After-Hours & On-Call: Participate in commuted overtime and after-hours duty rosters. Provide emergency cover including obstetric emergencies and gynaecological acute care. Clinical independence with sound decision-making and risk-management ability. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent record-keeping and administrative competence. Ability to work under pressure and manage workload priorities. Commitment to professional ethics and continuous professional development.
