Requirements
Degree in Dentistry (BDS/BChD). Registration with the HPCSA as an Independent practitioner with at least two years’ experience as a dentist. Post graduate courses in Anatomy, Physiology and Anatomical/General Pathology are a requirement. A valid ATLS certificate and experience in working in a Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery unit will be an added advantage. Experience in working in rural institutions e.g. Clinics, Community Health Centres or District hospitals and fulfilment of community service obligations is a requirement.
Duties
The Registrar will pursue a course of study over five years and if successful in meeting the requirements, will be awarded a qualification which will entitle the holder to register with HPCSA as a specialist Maxillofacial and Oral Surgeon. Through the course of the study, the registrar will deliver services by undertaking treatment of MFOS patients at SMU (Medunsa) Oral Health Centre and Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital of the Gauteng Department of Health. The registrar will also be required to execute a research project as well as be involved in the clinical training of undergraduate students.
