Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in Speech Therapy & Audiology. Current registration with HPSCA as a Speech Therapist and Audiologist. The candidate must have completed one year community service and must have one year experience post community service. Computer literacy (MS excel, word, PowerPoint & outlook). The candidate should be a dynamic individual who adapts well to change and should be able to work independently within the multidisciplinary team and under pressure. The candidate should be able to manage the required subsections, as well as supervise and mentor junior staff. Sound knowledge and skills in assessment, diagnosis, and management of communication and / or hearing conditions with evidence based practice. Should be willing to rotate within allocated areas within the hospital ( paediatrics & adults) and offer professional and effective services as per delegated responsibilities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong planning, organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to identify departmental needs as well as monitor, evaluate and coordinate existing services and to engage in solution-focused problem-solving and service development initiatives.
Duties
Provide Speech Therapy and/or audiology services to both in and out patients in accordance with evidence-based practice and departmental protocols. Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated patient care. Monitor, develop and co-ordinate speech therapy and / or audiology services as required. Maintain accurate clinical records, statistics and reports in accordance with departmental and legislative requirements. Participate in the development of management protocols for improved patient care. Execute all patient and departmental related administrative tasks including data compilation, stock management and submission of required reports. Co-ordinate, supervise and effectively plan relevant education activities and health calendar campaigns. Actively attend relevant meetings as well as take part in hospital activities and committees. Participate in the supervision, mentorship and training of junior staff, community service therapists & students. Participate and contribute towards quality assurance activities as well as active engagement in resource acquiring, management and allocation. Administer Performance Management and Development System (PMDS) and evaluation of junior level staff. Able to act in the position of Chief Speech Therapist & Audiologist where necessary.
