    Requirements

    Appropriate qualifications that allow registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Neurosurgery. Registration with the HPCSA as Medical specialist in Neurosurgery. No experience required after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical specialist in Neurosurgery. The following will be added advantage: 03 years’ experience after registration with HPCSA as a Medical specialist in General Surgery. Knowledge and Competencies: Must have a strong record of clinical governance; clinical expertise; surgical skills; training and teaching at both under -and- post- graduate levels. Publication record will be an added advantage. Must have good interpersonal, leadership, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills. Possess sound knowledge of Human Resources Management, budgeting and information management. Knowledge of relevant Health and Public Service legislation, regulations and policies including medical ethics. Have the ability to evaluate new technologies and decide on the cost-effective implementation thereof.

    Duties

    Effective overall management of the surgical unit. Assess and ensure good quality clinical service delivery by: development and implementation of guidelines; providing training and support to students, medical interns, community service doctors, nursing staff, medical officers and specialists in the unit. Management and control of equipment. Optimize use of Human and other resources. Participate in relevant hospital and management committees. Encourage and support relevant research and publications. Contribute to electronic databases for research purposes. Strategize and implement outreach programmes. Provide after hour specialist services.
