    Requirements

    Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification or prescribed Inservice training (with duration of less than 2 years) that allows for the required registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Dental Assistant. Registration with a Professional Council: Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Dental Assistant. Experience: Grade 1: None after obtaining an appropriate qualification or prescribed in-service training that allows for the required registration with the HPCSA as Dental Assistant. Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years appropriate experience after obtaining an appropriate qualification or prescribed in-service training that allows for the required registration with the HPCSA as Dental Assistant. Inherent requirements of the job: Willingness and skills to render clinical services in and after hours when necessary. Valid driver’s licence (Code B/EB) and willingness to travel. Competencies (knowledge/skills): Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel and Outlook). Good interpersonal skills. Ability to use own initiative and work independently or as a team. Good problem-solving and conflict resolution.

    Duties

    To assist the dentist in rendering an optimal, effective and efficient oral health service to the public. Assisting with dental procedures in theatre. Participate in health promotion programs. Effective management and utilization of stock and medication. Ensure infection control and occupational health and safety standards are maintained. Perform the necessary administrative duties.
