Requirements
Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Dietician. Registration with a professional council: Registration with Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Dietician. Experience: Grade 1: None after registration with HPCSA as a Dietician in respect of RSA qualified employees. 1-year relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Dietician in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa. Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Dietician in respect of SA qualified employees. A Minimum of 11 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Dietician in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa. Grade 3: A minimum of 20 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Dietician in respect of SA qualified employees. A minimum of 21 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Dietician in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa. Inherent requirement of the job: A valid driver’s licence (Code B/EB) and willingness to drive to Health facilities in the Garden Route District. Willingness to work overtime when needed. Competencies (knowledge/skills): Possess strong clinical knowledge and skills, particularly in managing disease-specific nutrition support for conditions like HIV/AIDS, TB, malnutrition, and maternal-child health. Be proficient in therapeutic dietary interventions and nutrition counselling while effectively communicating with patients, families, and healthcare teams. Organizational competence is essential, as the role involves managing clinical, outreach, and administrative tasks, as well as training and mentoring junior colleagues. Adaptability and problem-solving skills are key to navigating resource-limited environments. Leadership abilities, especially in managing clinic operations, when necessary, combined with a commitment to continuous professional development, round out the essential competencies for this role.
Duties
Provide therapeutic nutrition treatment and counselling for various conditions such as CDL, HIV/AIDS, TB, malnutrition, and maternal-child health. Promote breastfeeding, ensure compliance with MBFI/IYCF protocols, and support micronutrient malnutrition control through outreach services and local clinics. The role will involve coordinating off-site dietetic services, collaborating with specialists, and leading nutrition education and health promotion campaigns. Additionally, you will support food service management, document patient care, complete administrative tasks, and actively participate in professional development. Also assist the clinical manager in maintaining smooth clinic operations.
