This position is for a Nursing Assistant Grade 1 to 3 at Laingsburg Hospital, located in the Central Karoo District of the Western Cape. As part of the provincial health department, the successful candidate will join a facility that forms part of the broader Ecosystem Service platform. This means that, while the post is based at Laingsburg Hospital, the incumbent may be expected to provide clinical services across other institutions within the ecosystem as needed, in order to maintain continuity of health service delivery. The grade at which the successful applicant is appointed will depend directly on their level of experience, with progression from Grade 1 through to Grade 3 available for those who meet the required years of service.

Applicants must hold a qualification that allows them to register with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Nursing Assistant, and they must be registered with the SANC as such. For appointment at Grade 1, no prior nursing experience is required. Grade 2 appointment requires a minimum of ten years of appropriate or recognisable nursing experience after registration as a Nursing Assistant with the SANC. Grade 3 appointment requires a minimum of twenty years of such experience. A special concession applies to candidates who do not yet have the stipulated registration: they may still apply, but their appointment will be conditional on submitting proof of application to the SANC for first-time registration in this category, along with proof of payment of the prescribed registration fees, on or before the day of the interview. This concession is only available to health professionals applying for the first time for registration in a specific category with the relevant council.

The role demands a willingness to work overtime, shifts, public holidays, night duty and weekends, and to rotate to other wards within the hospital. Strong communication skills in both written and verbal forms are essential, as are self-discipline and motivation. The duties of the Nursing Assistant include providing quality basic nursing care and elementary clinical nursing care. The post holder will assist patients with activities of daily living, covering patient hygiene, nutritional status, mobility and elimination needs. The role also requires effective utilisation of physical and financial resources, maintaining professional growth, ethical standards and self-development, and accurate record keeping.

No payment of any kind is required when applying for this position. For any further enquiries, applicants may contact the nominated representative at the hospital. Interested candidates should note the closing date and application procedure provided with this advertisement, as late or incorrectly submitted applications will not be considered. This is an OSD-graded position, and remuneration will be determined according to the applicable grade and government pay scales.
