This part-time (5/8th) post for a Clinical Psychologist is based at Tygerberg Hospital in Parow Valley, within the Western Cape Department of Health. The role operates within the hospital's psychology units, covering child, adolescent, and adult patient populations, and is closely linked to the associated Faculty of Health Sciences at a university. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and delivering comprehensive psychological services to designated units, which includes conducting thorough personality and neuropsychological assessments across the age spectrum. The position also carries a significant training and supervisory component, as the incumbent will be expected to train and supervise Clinical Psychology interns, contribute to the teaching of students at the faculty, and participate in the academic activities of the university. Administrative duties form part of the daily responsibilities, ensuring the smooth operation of the psychological services.

To be considered, applicants must hold an appropriate qualification that permits registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Clinical Psychologist, and must be registered with the HPCSA in that category. The post is graded at three levels, with experience requirements varying accordingly. For Grade 1, no post-registration experience is required for South African qualified employees, while foreign qualified employees who are exempt from community service need one year of relevant experience. Grade 2 requires a minimum of eight years of relevant experience for RSA qualified employees, or nine years for foreign qualified employees. Grade 3 demands a minimum of sixteen years for RSA qualified employees, or seventeen years for foreign qualified employees. The grading is determined by the applicant's years of relevant experience after registration.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in comprehensive personality and neuropsychological assessment of children, adolescents, and adults, as well as in assessment, diagnosis, and psychotherapy across individual, group, couples, and family modalities. The ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams is essential, given the collaborative nature of hospital-based care.

Notably, this is an OSD-graded position, and a portion of the remuneration package can be structured according to the individual's personal needs. There is no payment of any kind required when applying for this post, and applications must be submitted electronically through the designated online portal. Enquiries are directed to a specific contact person at the hospital. This is a valuable opportunity for a qualified clinical psychologist to contribute to patient care, training, and academic development within a major tertiary hospital setting.
