An opportunity exists for two Administration Clerks to join the Technology Management Services unit in Durban, providing essential administrative and first-line technical support within a South African government department. This clerical post is well suited to candidates who are organised, customer-focused, and comfortable working with both people and technology. The successful incumbents will be based at the Durban centre and will play a key role in ensuring that IT services, equipment, and facilities operate smoothly for the unit’s users. As part of a broader ICT support environment, the position offers valuable exposure to public sector administration and technical service delivery.

Applicants must be South African citizens and must be able to furnish documentary proof of citizenship on the day of the interview. A Grade 12 / Senior Certificate / NCV Level 4 qualification, or an equivalent qualification at NQF level 4 as recognised by SAQA, is required. While no prior experience is strictly mandatory, relevant experience and courses in the field of the post will serve as a distinct advantage. Candidates must be proficient in at least English and one other official language, and must demonstrate general computer literacy across MS Word, MS Excel, MS Office, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook. The ideal candidate will also show competency in acting independently, professionally, accountably, and with credibility, along with sound planning, organising, administrative, and problem-solving skills. Strong interpersonal skills, good verbal and written communication, and a clear customer focus are essential, as is a willingness to work under pressure and beyond normal working hours when required.

The core duties of the role revolve around providing first-line technical support to users for hardware, printers, network-related, and radio technical issues. This includes logging, tracking, and escalating IT incidents and service requests as required, assisting users with password resets, user account administration, and system access requests, and performing basic troubleshooting of desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, and mobile devices. The clerk will also support the installation, configuration, and deployment of IT equipment and software, monitor and report IT equipment faults and maintenance requirements, and assist in setting up workstations, video conferencing facilities, and presentation equipment. Basic support for Microsoft Office applications, the email system, and business applications forms part of the daily work, as does liaising with ICT technicians, service providers, and vendors regarding technical issues. In addition to these technical support functions, the position carries a range of general administrative duties, ensuring the smooth operation of the unit’s administrative processes.

This is a government post within the Technology Management Services directorate, and the successful candidate will be expected to uphold values of accountability, professionalism, and credibility while delivering responsive support to internal users. Candidates should note that the selection process will require them to present original citizenship documents at the interview stage. The role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who enjoys problem-solving and wishes to build a career in public sector ICT support and administration. For any queries, the contact persons listed in the circular are available during office hours. This vacancy presents a solid entry point for those seeking to contribute to the efficient functioning of government technology services in Durban.
