This vacancy offers an opportunity for experienced professional nurses to join Bongani Regional Hospital as a Professional Nurse Specialty, with posts available across several critical specialties including Advanced Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Intensive Care Nursing, Operating Theatre Nursing, Trauma and Emergency Nursing, and Orthopedic Nursing Science. The position is graded on the PNB1–2 scale and forms part of the broader nursing service within the Free State Department of Health, where the successful candidate will be expected to deliver specialised, high-quality care within a regional hospital setting that serves a diverse patient population.
Applicants must hold a Senior Certificate along with a basic R425 diploma or degree in nursing, or a four-year Bachelor Degree in Nursing that permits registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing. A minimum of four years of appropriate and recognisable nursing experience after registration is required, together with current SANC registration for the 2026/2027 period. Crucially, candidates must also possess a post-basic nursing qualification of at least one year, accredited by the SANC, in one of the specialties listed above. The role demands good communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to perform under pressure, and computer literacy.
The duties of the post centre on demonstrating a thorough understanding of nursing legislation and the legal and ethical frameworks governing nursing practice. The incumbent will perform clinical nursing duties in line with the scope of practice and nursing standards determined by the facility, while actively promoting quality care. Effective communication with patients, supervisors, and fellow clinicians is essential, including report writing when required. The nurse will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, plan and organise both their own work and that of support personnel, and display a genuine concern for patients by advocating proper treatment and care in line with the Batho Pele principles. The role also requires the ability to work cooperatively with people from diverse intellectual, cultural, racial, and religious backgrounds.
The department intends to promote representativity through these posts, with preference given to applicants from designated groups, particularly people with disabilities, women, and youth. Shortlisted candidates will undergo personnel suitability checks, including criminal record, citizenship, financial records, and qualification verification, and may be asked to consent to access to their social media accounts. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA, and non-RSA residents must submit proof when shortlisted. New public service appointments are required to join the Government Employee Medical Scheme to qualify for a medical subsidy. Applicants who do not receive notification within four months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful.
