This position offers a rewarding opportunity for a qualified dental professional to join the Free State Department of Education within the Lejweleputswa District, operating under the Occupational Specific Dispensation (OSD) framework. The role is graded at three levels, allowing for career progression based on post-registration experience. As a Dentist, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership, governance, and management within the dental unit, while also delivering essential oral health services to the community. The work involves offering both primary and secondary dental services to adults, as well as secondary dental services to children, through Primary Health Care (PHC) clinics and outreach visits. This includes ensuring the effective control and management of stock, maintaining high-quality health services in line with Ideal Clinic Standards, and adhering to Infection Prevention Control and Occupational Health and Safety compliance requirements.
Applicants must possess a Matric certificate along with an appropriate qualification that permits registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Dentist. Current registration with the HPCSA for the 2026/2027 period is mandatory. The experience requirements vary according to the grade applied for: Grade 1 requires no experience post-registration, Grade 2 demands a minimum of seven years of relevant experience as a dentist, and Grade 3 requires at least twelve years of such experience. A valid driver's license (Code B or EB) is essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent report writing, clinical documentation, record keeping, and referral writing skills, alongside sound verbal and written communication abilities. Proficiency in computer applications such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is also required, as is the ability to comply with National Core Standards and manage time effectively. Flexibility and innovation in responding to diverse client needs are key attributes, along with strong clinical planning and follow-up capabilities.
The department is committed to promoting representativity and will give preference to applicants from designated groups, particularly people with disabilities, women, and youth. Shortlisted candidates will be subjected to personnel suitability checks, including criminal record verification, citizenship checks, financial record review, and qualification verification, and may be required to consent to access to their social media accounts. It is important to note that applicants who previously terminated their services through voluntary severance packages are not eligible to apply. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), and non-RSA residents must provide proof of permanent residence when shortlisted. New appointments in the public service are required to join the Government Employee Medical Scheme (GEMS) to qualify for a government medical subsidy. The department reserves the right not to fill the advertised positions, and candidates should be available for selection interviews at a date and place determined by the department. If no notification of appointment is received within four months of the closing date, applicants should consider their application unsuccessful.
