This position offers a one-year contract opportunity for a Data Capturer within the Basic Education Employment Initiative, based at the Head Office in Zwelitsha and operating under the Directorate of Human Resource Development. The role is central to supporting the department’s operational record-keeping and data management functions, ensuring that information from various sources is accurately captured, organised, and made available to the components that rely on it. As a Data Capturer, you will be the first point of quality control for the department’s data, working with databases, spreadsheets, and tables to transform raw records into usable, reliable information.
The minimum requirement for this post is a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent, and no prior work experience is necessary, making it an accessible entry-level opportunity for candidates entering the public service. However, the role demands a solid working knowledge of departmental and provincial directives, DPSA policies, circulars, and both national and provincial guidelines. Applicants should bring a broad skill set that includes operational and financial management awareness, project management capabilities, strong communication and negotiation skills, people management, research aptitude, analytical thinking, and computer literacy. Problem-solving, presentation, conflict resolution, language proficiency, sound organisational skills, and basic written communication are also essential. The department places a high value on personal integrity, honesty, professionalism, self-motivation, and the ability to work effectively within a team.
Your core duties will involve capturing data from available records into the required formats, verifying and querying missing data or errors encountered during entry, and reviewing and validating all information before submission. You will be responsible for making regular backups of data, updating registers and statistics, and maintaining orderly, secure records and files. The role also requires you to ensure that all records are properly sorted and secured, and to provide information to various components within the department as needed. This is a hands-on administrative position where accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality are paramount.
Shortlisted candidates will need to submit certified copies of their qualifications and other relevant documents before the interview, and all selected applicants will undergo a personnel suitability check, including criminal record, citizenship, financial asset, qualification, and employment verification. The department is committed to addressing employment equity targets, and successful candidates will be appointed on a probation period. If you have not been contacted within six months of the closing date, you should consider your application unsuccessful. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented individual to gain valuable public sector experience while contributing to a meaningful education employment initiative.
