This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the efficient functioning of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) within the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Mpumalanga, based in Mbombela. As an Administrative Clerk, you will be the backbone of the office’s daily operations, ensuring that administrative systems run smoothly so that legal professionals can focus on their core duties. The role is ideal for a detail-oriented, self-motivated individual who thrives in a structured environment and can handle a wide variety of tasks with professionalism and integrity. You will work closely with legal staff, providing essential support across financial, logistical, and human resource matters, while also managing the flow of correspondence and documentation both internally and with external stakeholders such as members of the public, other organisations, and State departments.
To be considered for this role, you must hold a Grade 12 certificate or an equivalent qualification. Beyond the formal qualification, the NPA looks for candidates who can demonstrate competency in acting independently, professionally, and with accountability and credibility. Strong planning and organisational skills are essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally. You should be computer literate, with practical knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Good people skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and the capacity to work without constant supervision are also key attributes for success in this position.
Your main duties will involve designing and maintaining a well-organised administrative system for the office, executing a wide range of administrative tasks, and drafting correspondence to various parties. You will liaise with the administration on all matters related to the office’s functioning, and provide direct administrative support to legal staff in areas such as finance, logistics, and human resources. The role also includes hands-on tasks like delivering mail, photocopying, faxing, and receiving or dispatching documents both electronically and manually. Additionally, you will provide court administration services, assist with the efficient management of court rolls, and compile monthly reports and statistics. This variety ensures that no two days are the same, and your organisational skills will be put to good use in a fast-paced legal environment.
There are several important conditions attached to this vacancy. The NPA is committed to employment equity, and this position is subject to a security clearance of at least confidential level; appointment will be provisional pending the outcome of that clearance. Fingerprints will be taken on the day of the interview, and the social media accounts of shortlisted applicants may be accessed as part of the verification process. A valid driver’s licence may be required where applicable. All shortlisted candidates will undergo two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise and an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment, which will be scored as an additional criterion during the interview. Please note that the NPA does not pay resettlement costs for successful applicants. When applying, ensure you use the most recent Z83 application form and submit a comprehensive CV only, as incomplete applications will be disqualified. Only shortlisted candidates will need to provide certified copies of qualifications and, for foreign qualifications, a SAQA evaluation report. If you do not receive an acknowledgement within one week after the closing date, you may contact the NPA, but otherwise, if you have not heard back within six months, consider your application unsuccessful.
