This full-time communications role is based at the National Prosecuting Authority’s Head Office in Pretoria, within the Chief Directorate Communications, which forms part of the Strategy, Operations and Compliance division. The position is being re-advertised and offers an opportunity to shape the public face of a key state institution through professional multimedia production. The Communications Officer (Multimedia) will be responsible for creating engaging photo and video content for diverse audiences, supporting both internal and external communication objectives. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic government environment, balancing creative and technical demands while ensuring all outputs reflect the credibility and professionalism expected of the NPA. This is a hands-on production role that requires independent judgement, strong organisational ability, and the capacity to manage multiple projects from concept through to final delivery.
Applicants need an appropriate Bachelor’s degree at NQF level 7, or a three-year National Diploma at NQF level 6, in Multimedia, Digital Media Design, Digital Marketing, Communication, Public Relations or a related field recognised by SAQA. A minimum of two years of relevant experience in multimedia production or digital content creation is essential, together with a valid driver’s licence. Proven experience as a Multimedia Specialist, Multimedia Officer, Digital Content Creator or similar role is required. Candidates must be able to act independently, professionally and with accountability and credibility. They must also be reliable, capable of working under pressure and meeting tight daily deadlines, and able to demonstrate sound interpersonal skills, teamwork, time management and change management. Good knowledge of government programmes, project management and coordination is important, as is a client-oriented and customer-focused approach.
The core duties involve producing and editing high-quality photo and video content using Adobe Creative Suite and other relevant software, applying visual storytelling techniques including basic animation and graphic design across multimedia platforms, and planning, organising and managing multimedia projects from start to finish. The role also includes executing professional photography and videography, presenting content effectively, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. Accuracy, attention to detail, and strong communication and listening skills are central to the position. Candidates should be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Apple Mac OS, DaVinci Resolve, Canva and Microsoft Office Suite, and have strong technical knowledge of multimedia technologies, digital platforms and production equipment. Hands-on experience with professional DSLR/SLR cameras, video cameras, audio equipment, lighting equipment and related tools is required, as is experience in hybrid events management, live streaming, and capturing, selecting, editing, enhancing and archiving professional images and video. Knowledge of digital platform management, including website, social media, intranet and Viva Engage, along with experience in branding, events management and content development, is also expected. The role involves travel, flexible working hours, and working with heavy equipment such as tripods, cabling, lighting and podcasting equipment.
This is a public service post subject to the NPA’s recruitment processes. Applicants must apply using the prescribed application form and a detailed CV at the initial stage, and shortlisted candidates will later need to produce certified copies of qualifications and relevant documents. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA. Appointment will be provisional pending a security clearance of at least confidential, and fingerprints will be taken on the day of the interview. The NPA may review the social media accounts of shortlisted applicants as part of verification, and all shortlisted candidates will undergo a practical exercise and an integrity assessment as part of the selection process. The NPA reserves the right not to fill the position, and applicants who do not receive feedback within six months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful.
