This position offers an opportunity to join the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption within the National Prosecuting Authority, based at the head office in Pretoria. As a Financial Investigator, you will play a central role in the fight against financial crime and corruption, working within a legal and investigative environment that demands high levels of integrity, professionalism, and accountability. The role is situated within a unit dedicated to pursuing complex cases, and you will be expected to operate independently while also contributing to broader team objectives. Your work will directly support the directorate’s mandate to investigate and prosecute serious corruption, requiring a blend of forensic skill, legal awareness, and strategic thinking.

To be considered, you must hold an appropriate Bachelor’s degree at NQF Level 7, or a recognised three-year diploma at NQF Level 6, in fields such as forensic investigation, forensic auditing, criminal investigation, policing, or an equivalent qualification. In addition, you need at least three years of practical experience in financial investigation within a legal, investigative, or financial setting, covering areas like financial crime, financial analysis, forensic accounting, or compliance. Vocational training in forensic investigation, forensic auditing, law, or specialised financial investigation courses is also required. The role demands demonstrable competencies in acting independently, professionally, and with credibility, alongside excellent written and verbal communication, innovation, and a proactive approach. You should possess general management and project management skills, strategic capability and leadership, people management and empowerment abilities, customer service responsiveness, strong planning and prioritising skills, and solid research and administration capabilities. A valid driver’s licence is essential.

Your main duties will involve conducting case planning, performing thorough financial investigations, executing special operations in line with relevant legislation, engaging with stakeholders to support financial investigations, and providing administrative support for case management. This means you will be responsible for gathering and analysing financial evidence, preparing case files, liaising with internal and external parties, and ensuring that investigations proceed efficiently and within legal frameworks. The role requires meticulous attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards.

Applicants should note that this is a re-advertised position, and the selection process includes several verification steps. Successful candidates will be subject to a security clearance at least at the confidential level, and appointment will be provisional pending that clearance. Fingerprints will be taken on the day of the interview, and the social media accounts of shortlisted applicants may be accessed as part of verification. All shortlisted candidates will undergo pre-entry assessments, including a practical exercise and an integrity assessment, which will be scored as additional criteria during the interview. While this is not an SMS post, the broader notes indicate that for SMS positions additional requirements apply, but for this role, the focus is on the financial investigator duties. It is important to follow the application instructions precisely, using the most recent Z83 form and a comprehensive CV, as incomplete applications will be disqualified. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA if shortlisted. The NPA reserves the right not to fill the position, and if you do not receive feedback within six months of the closing date, you should consider your application unsuccessful. This role offers a chance to contribute meaningfully to anti-corruption efforts within a respected state institution.
