This position, based at the Central Office of Central Johannesburg TVET College, is a re-advertisement for an Assistant Director responsible for partnerships and linkages. The role sits within the college’s central administration and is central to building the institution’s external relationships with industry, government, and other stakeholders, while also supporting student entrepreneurship and work-integrated learning. The successful candidate will operate at a managerial level, overseeing a unit that drives income generation, project collaboration, and compliance with sectoral requirements. Given the college’s mandate to provide vocational and technical education, this role is pivotal in ensuring that students gain practical exposure and that the institution remains financially sustainable through strategic alliances.

Candidates must hold a National Senior Certificate or equivalent, paired with a recognised National Diploma or Degree at NQF level 7 in Project Management, or a related field such as Entrepreneurship, Communications, or Technology. An Honours degree will be an added advantage. The role requires a minimum of three to five years of experience in a project management or education environment, along with at least three to five years of supervisory experience. A valid driver’s licence is essential. The ideal applicant will have a solid understanding of partnership development, marketing, entrepreneurial insight, financial management, and the legislative frameworks governing public sector work, including the Public Service Act, PFMA, and Treasury Regulations. Advanced skills in negotiation, communication, project management, planning, analytical thinking, and client orientation are also required.

The core duties are diverse and strategic. The Assistant Director will build and maintain a database of potential partners, stakeholders, and local businesses, and actively assist students in establishing their own enterprises. This involves participating in business forums, identifying collaboration opportunities, and developing project proposals, business cases, and implementation plans for joint initiatives. The role also entails facilitating partnerships with industry, government, and relevant organisations, as well as identifying income-generation and work-integrated learning opportunities. The post holder will coordinate the submission of tenders, funding proposals, and reports to the Department of Higher Education and Training and other stakeholders, while managing local and provincial government relations and maintaining a schedule of related projects. Feasibility studies, project budgets, and service level agreements fall under this remit, as does supporting SETA and accreditation processes, including new programme approvals. Oversight of student work placement and Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) initiatives is a key responsibility, alongside the effective management of human, financial, and other resources within the unit.

Applicants should note that this is a re-advertisement, and those who applied previously are encouraged to re-apply if still interested. The college is committed to employment equity and affirmative action, with preference given to candidates who promote representativity in terms of race, gender, and disability. Shortlisted candidates will undergo two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise testing technical and generic suitability, and an integrity assessment. They will also be required to submit certified documents and confirmation of employment history. The successful candidate must sign an annual performance agreement, disclose financial interests, and pass security clearance. Personnel suitability checks, including criminal record and qualification verification, will be conducted. Candidates are responsible for their own travel and accommodation during the recruitment process, and the college reserves the right not to make an appointment. If not contacted within three months of the closing date, applicants should consider their application unsuccessful.
