This position offers an entry-level opportunity within the Security Printing directorate of the Government Printing Works, based in Pretoria. As an Administration Clerk dedicated to Administrative Support Services, the successful candidate will work within a specialised environment that produces and manages secure printed materials for the public service. The role is designed to support the smooth workflow of production activities, working closely with the Chief Clerk and liaising across multiple operational units such as design, press, printing, and finishing. The context is one of precision, confidentiality, and timeliness, where administrative accuracy directly supports the delivery of sensitive documents to government stakeholders.

Applicants need only a Grade 12 Certificate, as no prior work experience is required. However, a sound understanding of relevant public service administration frameworks, GPW policies, security printing procedures, and internal administrative prescripts is essential. The ability to obtain a positive security clearance is a firm requirement, reflecting the sensitive nature of the work. This is an ideal role for a detail-oriented school leaver or someone seeking to begin a career in public administration within a security-conscious production environment.

The core duties revolve around production support and record-keeping. The clerk will assist the Chief Clerk with production activities, help maintain an organised inventory system, track usage of materials, and initiate re-ordering when stock levels require replenishment. A significant part of the role involves maintaining and updating records of production activities, including job specifications, client requirements, production schedules, and inventory levels. The clerk will also be responsible for distributing printed documents and related correspondence to relevant stakeholders, coordinating with courier or transport service providers to arrange deliveries, and monitoring delivery progress. This includes tracking and tracing dispatched printed materials, communicating with delivery personnel, monitoring shipment status, and assisting in resolving any delivery issues or delays. In addition, the role requires compiling up-to-date statistics and providing input for daily, weekly, or monthly reports, as well as supporting the ordering and maintenance of adequate material stock to ensure continuous production.

Candidates should note that this is a government post subject to standard public service conditions. The department is an equal opportunity affirmative action employer and specifically aims to promote equity in terms of race, gender, and disability through filling this vacancy. Shortlisted candidates will undergo a personnel suitability check, including criminal record, citizenship, credit record, qualification verification, and employment verification. By applying, candidates consent to the collection, processing, and storing of personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act. The successful candidate will be required to enter into an employment contract and a performance agreement. The department reserves the right not to make an appointment. Given the security clearance requirement and the nature of the work, applicants should be prepared for a thorough vetting process and must ensure they meet the administrative and integrity standards expected within this directorate.
