This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) as an Administration Clerk within the Capacity Development Region Two, based in Cape Town. The role sits within the National Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), supporting the Directorate’s administrative and logistical functions. The EPWP is a key government initiative aimed at providing temporary work opportunities and skills development for unemployed South Africans, and this post plays a vital part in ensuring the smooth running of the capacity development component for the region. As an Administration Clerk, you will be the backbone of daily office operations, ensuring that correspondence, records, procurement, and financial administration are handled efficiently and in line with public service regulations.
To be considered for this role, you must hold a Grade 12 certificate (NQF Level 4) or an equivalent qualification. While not mandatory, a post-matric qualification and relevant administrative experience will be a distinct advantage. The department seeks candidates with a solid understanding of administrative procedures, the Public Service Regulations, procurement processes, and the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA). You will need to demonstrate strong planning and organising skills, computer literacy, and excellent written and spoken communication abilities. The ability to work long hours voluntarily, gather and analyse information, adhere to policies, and function both independently and as part of a team is essential. You should also be comfortable communicating with people at various levels, from colleagues to external stakeholders.
Your primary duties will involve providing comprehensive administrative and logistical support to the Directorate. This includes receiving and registering all incoming and outgoing correspondence, making photocopies, and assisting with petty cash requests and the procurement of office stock. You will be responsible for records management, ensuring that documents are distributed promptly and confidentially. Travel arrangements for officials and the handling of travel claims will also fall under your remit. Maintaining and overseeing the Directorate’s filing system is a key task, as is assisting with the management of finances within the unit. You will procure goods and services using the correct procedures, prepare quarterly procurement reports, and ensure that orders are created and invoices are paid timeously. Accuracy, confidentiality, and adherence to policy are critical in this role.
The DFFE is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer. Preference may be given to appointable applicants from underrepresented designated groups in line with the Department’s equity plan, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Shortlisted candidates will be subjected to screening and security vetting, including criminal record checks, citizenship status verification, creditworthiness assessment, reference checks, and qualification verification. You will be required to submit certified copies of your qualifications, identity document, and driver’s licence on or before the interview day. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA). The application process is online, and you must complete the Z83 form and attach a detailed CV with at least three contactable references. Failure to provide all required information will lead to disqualification. No late applications will be accepted, and correspondence will be limited to successful candidates. If you have not been contacted within three months after the closing date, you should consider your application unsuccessful. By applying, you consent to the processing of your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). This is a demanding but rewarding role for a detail-oriented individual who thrives in a structured administrative environment.
