The Compensation Fund, based in Pretoria, is seeking to fill two Accounting Clerk positions within its sub-directorate, offering an excellent entry-level opportunity for candidates who have just completed their schooling. As part of the larger Department of Employment and Labour framework, the Compensation Fund administers the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA), and these posts play a supporting role in ensuring that the Fund’s financial and claims processes run smoothly. The successful incumbents will be responsible for attending to accounts payable and claims processes, which includes receiving invoice notifications for goods received. They will also provide broader accounting and administrative support to the sub-directorate, helping to maintain accurate records and facilitate the processing of payments and claims in line with the Fund’s policies and legislative requirements.

In terms of qualifications, a Grade 12 Certificate at NQF level 4, as recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), is the fundamental requirement. Importantly, no prior work experience is needed for this role, making it an ideal stepping stone for those beginning their careers in the public sector finance or administration environment. However, candidates must bring a working knowledge of key areas that are central to the position. This includes familiarity with Compensation Fund policies, procedures and processes, as well as an understanding of COIDA. Knowledge of customer service principles, specifically the Batho Pele standards, is essential, along with an awareness of financial control processes, accounts payable prescripts and data capturing methods. A grasp of stakeholder and customer relationships, together with legislative requirements such as the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and National Treasury Regulations, is also expected. Candidates should possess strong computer literacy, effective verbal and written communication, sound interpersonal skills, proper data and records management abilities, polished telephone etiquette, and the capacity for problem-solving and decision-making.

The core duties of the Accounting Clerk will revolve around the accounts payable function, ensuring that invoices for goods received are received, verified and processed timeously. This includes handling claims processes as they relate to the Compensation Fund, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, and maintaining organised and accurate records in line with the Fund’s data management standards. The role requires attention to detail and a methodical approach to avoid errors in the financial workflow. Additionally, the clerks will work under the guidance of the sub-directorate to deliver day-to-day administrative support, which may include filing, responding to queries, and assisting with any other tasks assigned to ensure the unit achieves its objectives.

Applicants should note that this is an employment equity-targeted advertisement: priority will be given to persons with disabilities, as well as Indian and White candidates, in line with the Department’s equity goals. The position is based at the Compensation Fund's offices in Pretoria. This is a structured, permanent public-sector post with a clear salary level, and all appointments will be subject to the standard verification and vetting processes applicable within the public service. As this is an entry-level vacancy, it is particularly suited to young professionals who are keen to develop practical skills in a government finance environment while contributing to the important social security function of the Compensation Fund.
