This position is an exciting career opportunity for an experienced infrastructure and support services professional to join the Western Cape College of Nursing. Based at the Central Administration Offices on the Stikland Campus, the Assistant Director will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for physical infrastructure and the full range of non-academic support functions across the College’s multi-campus environment. The role sits within the College’s central administration and works closely with campus managers, staff, students and external service providers to ensure safe, functional and well-maintained learning and administrative facilities. It is a senior operational management post, requiring a blend of technical infrastructure expertise, contract and financial management, and people leadership.

To be eligible, candidates must possess an appropriate National Diploma at NQF Level 6 (or equivalent) in Public Management or Project Management, along with relevant experience in infrastructure and support services. A valid Code B/EB driver’s licence is an inherent requirement, as travel between campuses will be necessary. The ideal candidate will have sound knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations and policies, including the standards of the Office of Health Standards Compliance. Proficiency in facilities and infrastructure management, maintenance planning, service contracts and support service best practices is essential, as is the ability to think strategically, develop policy and plan operational activities. Strong leadership and supervision skills, team building, conflict resolution, stakeholder management, negotiation and relationship-building competencies are also required. Excellent verbal and written communication is expected, including report writing and technical documentation, along with solid computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, and project management skills to plan, organise and coordinate complex service delivery.

The core duties are wide-ranging. The Assistant Director will lead the development and implementation of infrastructure master planning and lifecycle planning, and manage capital improvement projects for buildings and physical infrastructure across all College sites. This includes overseeing support services such as the workshop, transport, reprographic services, records management and archives, and housekeeping. The role also entails managing a variety of service contracts, including security, cleaning, maintenance, access control, biometric systems, CCTV, fire systems, ground maintenance and pest control, while ensuring reliable security and access control for staff and students across all campuses. Budgeting and financial management for support services falls under this role, as does the management and development of support services staff, ensuring effective people management and service delivery.

The post is advertised on an OSD-graded salary scale, and candidates who are shortlisted will be required to undergo a competency test as part of the selection process. No payment of any kind is required when applying, and all applications must be submitted through the designated online application portal for Western Cape government health jobs. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the nursing education environment by enabling a safe, efficient and well-managed infrastructure that supports the College’s core training mandate.
