The successful candidate will be expected to function independently and professionally, ensuring that administrative processes run smoothly and that the unit’s human, physical and financial resources are managed with accountability and credibility. This is a supportive yet crucial position, requiring a strong customer focus and the ability to remain responsive under pressure, including working extended hours when necessary.
To be considered for this post, applicants must be citizens of the Republic of South Africa and be able to provide documentary proof of citizenship on the day of the interview. A Grade 12 Senior Certificate, National Certificate Vocational at Level 4, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority at NQF Level 4 is required. Candidates must demonstrate general computer literacy, specifically in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Office, MS PowerPoint and Outlook. In addition, good verbal and written communication skills, sound planning and organising abilities, administrative and problem-solving competencies, and strong interpersonal skills are all expected. The ability to act independently, remain accountable and maintain credibility in all dealings is central to the role.
The core duties of the position are broad and touch on several areas of administrative management. The incumbent will provide administrative and clerical support to personnel within the unit, with a focus on personnel administration. This includes managing correspondence, ensuring accurate record-keeping of files, and controlling both human and physical resources. The role also requires the implementation and maintenance of performance management processes and job descriptions at the unit level. Furthermore, the clerk will assist with procurement and logistical support within the Sub-section Supply Chain Management, administer the payment process, and take responsibility for the issuing and capturing of order forms. These duties demand careful attention to detail and a systematic approach to administration.
The appointment will be subject to a range of special conditions aligned with SAPS recruitment policies. Shortlisted candidates will need to produce original identity documents, educational qualifications, service certificates and driver’s licences for verification. Background enquiries, fingerprint screening, vetting, and security clearance processes may be conducted at any stage of employment. New appointees may also be required to provide a buccal sample for forensic DNA profiling in line with relevant legislation. Applicants must have no previous criminal convictions or pending criminal or departmental cases. Candidates who are respondents in protection orders may be disqualified. The SAPS is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer, and preference will be given to persons whose appointment will promote representivity in the Public Service. Persons who retired from the Public Service through severance, early retirement, or medical retirement are excluded. It is also important to note that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted; applicants who do not hear within three months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful.
