This advertisement seeks to fill twenty-four General Worker/Labourer posts within the Limpopo provincial health department, distributed across a range of settings including district offices, hospitals, clinics, and an emergency medical services station. The placements span locations such as Sekhukhune, Mopani, Vhembe, Capricorn, Groblersdal, Bungeni, Dilokong, Seloane, Mahwelereng, Lebowakgomo, Mokopane, Mashashane, Siloam, Klipspruit, Philadelphia, Danville, Donald Frazer, Jane Furse, Letaba, Hayani, and Elim. This is a Level 02 position, and the work is largely operational, physical, and service-oriented within a healthcare environment. Incumbents should expect to be on their feet for up to twelve hours per day, to work shifts including night duty, weekends, and public holidays, and to be available for extra hours at short notice.

To be considered, applicants must hold a National Senior Certificate, Grade 12, Matric, or an ABET/AET qualification at NQF level 4 recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority. Previous exposure to a hospital environment and patient care is an added advantage. The role requires the physical ability to lift and move heavy equipment and supplies, to operate heavy-duty laundry and cleaning equipment, and to use machinery such as lawnmowers and weed eaters. Importantly, candidates must be willing to work with human excreta, bodily fluids including blood, and to lift corpses of varying weights when required. Knowledge of the Batho Pele Principles, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, good communication and customer care skills, and an understanding of waste management are also expected.

The duties are varied and are allocated according to the operational needs of the facility. In a general capacity, the worker will load and offload supplies, assist artisans and tradesmen aids, keep tools safe and clean, and maintain the grounds of the facility. Where deployed as a porter, duties include transporting patients by stretcher or wheelchair to and from wards and departments, carrying patients, taking corpses to the mortuary, cleaning and washing stretchers and wheelchairs, and performing minor maintenance on this equipment. As a laundry aid, the worker must accurately record incoming and outgoing linen daily for hospitals, clinics, and EMS services, handle soiled and clean linen correctly according to internal protocol and infection control measures, clean the laundry and its equipment daily, and adhere to health and safety regulations. In a cleaning role, the individual performs cleaning services in offices, passages, ablution facilities, empties dustbins, picks up waste, and keeps all cleaning equipment and materials safe.

Candidates should note several important conditions attached to these posts. Short-listed applicants will be required to produce original identity documents, qualifications, service certificates, and driver’s licences for verification. They must have no previous criminal convictions or pending departmental cases, and will undergo vetting, security screening, fingerprint screening, reference checking, and address verification. Certain posts are also subject to checks against the National Register for Sex Offenders and the Child Protection Register. All short-listed candidates will participate in a personal interview and will complete two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise based on the technical and generic requirements of the post, and an integrity assessment. Applicants are also expected to disclose whether they are a respondent in an interim or final protection order under the Domestic Violence Act. Applications must be submitted on the prescribed application form and must reach the correct address timeously, with separate applications required for each post applied for.
