The Department of Health in Limpopo is advertising two vacancies for the position of Accounting Clerk specialising in Revenue Management, with one post based at Dr CN Phatudi Hospital and the other at Thamoopo Hospital. This is an operational financial role within the public health sector, tasked with supporting the revenue cycle by ensuring that debts are accurately recorded, collected, and reconciled. The position is graded according to the Occupation Specific Dispensation (OSD) and offers a stable career opportunity for individuals with a strong administrative and financial background.

Applicants must hold a National Senior Certificate or Grade 12 or Matric, supplemented by an NQF level 6 qualification in Financial Management, Accounting, Cost Management Accounting, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Computer literacy is essential, specifically proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as familiarity with virtual meeting platforms. A valid driver’s licence is required, although an exception is made for people with disabilities who are unable to obtain one. The role demands a basic understanding of Public Sector Financial Administration, including the prescripts of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and Treasury Regulations. Practical knowledge of the BAS and PERSAL systems is also expected, along with strong communication skills, good interpersonal relations, and the ability to work independently while accepting responsibility for one’s duties.

The core responsibilities of the Accounting Clerk involve the full debt management cycle. This includes receiving and recording debt creation forms, capturing revenue and debt transactions in the financial system, creating debts on the BAS system, and implementing PERSAL deductions where applicable. The incumbent will open and maintain debt files, issue reminder letters, and make telephonic follow-ups on outstanding debts. The role also requires compiling files for handover to debt collectors, reconciling payments received, clearing revenue and debt-related suspense accounts through the passing of relevant journals, and performing daily revenue and debt reconciliations. In addition to these financial duties, the position involves safeguarding state resources, handling and updating accounting records in line with applicable procedures, maintaining proper filing and record-keeping systems, performing cashier duties, and providing any other administrative functions as directed from time to time.

Candidates should note that this is a government position with strict application and appointment requirements. All applications must be submitted online, and applicants must complete the new Z83 form in full, with a comprehensive CV attached. For online submissions, only PDF attachments are accepted, and applicants are responsible for ensuring that all required information is clearly provided in the CV where the Z83 form refers to it. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA, and certified copies of qualifications, identity documents, and any relevant registration will be required from shortlisted candidates at the interview stage. Shortlisted applicants should also expect to undergo a practical exercise and an integrity assessment as part of the selection process. These conditions are designed to ensure that only suitably qualified and ethical candidates are appointed to manage public revenue effectively.
