This position offers an opportunity to provide high-level administrative coordination within the Office of the Chief Director for Strategy and Systems at the Limpopo Department of Health, based in Polokwane. As an Administration Officer, the incumbent will act as the administrative anchor for a busy strategic directorate, ensuring that the office runs smoothly and that its internal systems support the branch’s broader mandate. The role requires a mature, organised professional who can work independently, handle sensitive information with discretion, and engage confidently with everyone from ministry officials to members of the public.
Candidates must hold a National Senior Certificate or Matric, complemented by an NQF level 6 qualification in Secretarial, Office Management, Management Assistant, or a related field recognised by SAQA. At least two years of relevant experience in office management is required, alongside strong computer literacy in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as proficiency with virtual meeting platforms. A valid driver’s licence is necessary unless the applicant has a disability. The successful candidate must be willing to work extra hours on short notice and must demonstrate a sound understanding of the legislative framework governing the Public Service, including relevant prescripts and procedures. Key competencies include operational supervision and work allocation, planning and organising, compliance and governance, verification and quality assurance, financial and numerical accuracy, people management, problem solving, and information and records management. Personal attributes such as integrity, objectivity, a strong sense of responsibility, loyalty, service orientation, and the ability to maintain confidentiality are essential, as is the capacity to work with difficult individuals and resolve conflict professionally.
The main duties involve rendering a comprehensive administrative support service to the Chief Director’s office. This includes establishing and maintaining an effective submission and correspondence control system, so that documents are tracked, routed and filed accurately. The officer will also coordinate, oversee and administer human resources administrative activities within the branch, as well as coordinating supply chain and related activities. This means liaising with various internal stakeholders, ensuring compliance with governance requirements, and maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality in all administrative outputs.
Shortlisted candidates should note that they will be required to attend an interview and will need to submit certified copies of qualifications, identity documents and any relevant registrations. Pre-entry assessments, including a practical exercise and an integrity or ethical conduct assessment, form part of the selection process. Applications must be submitted online, with a fully completed and signed new Z83 form accompanied by a comprehensive CV in PDF format; foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA. This post is suited to a detail-driven, ethical and service-orientated individual who thrives in a structured public service environment and is ready to support strategic leadership through exemplary administrative practice.
