The Limpopo Department of Health is advertising four shift-based vacancies for EMS Station Manager Grade 3, based at Matlala EMS, Dendron EMS, Zebediela EMS and Witpoort EMS stations. This operational leadership role sits within the provincial emergency medical services environment, blending clinical expertise with day-to-day management of resources and personnel. Successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring that their assigned station operates efficiently and safely, with emergency vehicles, equipment and staff ready to respond at all times. Because the post works on shifts, candidates must be comfortable working after hours, being on call, and functioning in a high-pressure emergency response setting.

To be considered, applicants need a National Senior Certificate or Grade 12/Matric qualification, together with successful completion of Immediate Life Support (ILS) training that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Ambulance Emergency Assistant (AEA). At least three years of post-registration experience as an ILS practitioner is required. A valid driver’s licence in code C1 or Code 10, along with a Professional Driving Permit for passengers, is essential. Computer literacy is also expected, including proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as familiarity with virtual meeting platforms. The ideal candidate will have sound knowledge of ILS protocols, a clear understanding of the EMS sector and its core business, proven managerial and interpersonal abilities, and strong verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act is another requirement, reflecting the financial accountability aspects of the role.

The main duties involve managing EMS vehicles, equipment and staff at station level, treating patients according to the relevant protocols, and upholding best clinical practices in line with quality standards. The station manager must also ensure that all operations comply with standing operational procedures. This is an OSD-graded post, and the successful appointee will be expected to maintain both clinical and administrative discipline, supporting the broader goals of the provincial health department.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview and must bring certified copies of their qualifications, current HPCSA registration and identity document. They will also undergo two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise and an integrity or ethical conduct assessment, with the results contributing to the overall interview score. Applicants with foreign qualifications are responsible for having them evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority and must provide proof of that evaluation. Applications must be submitted online using the new Z83 form, accompanied by a comprehensive CV, and all applicable sections of the form must be completed honestly and accurately, as the CV is treated as an extension of the application. These posts offer a valuable opportunity for experienced ILS practitioners ready to step into a management role within the public emergency medical services system.
