The Limpopo Department of Health is advertising seventeen Professional Nurse (Specialty) posts at Grade 1 and Grade 2 levels, to be based across a range of provincial hospitals including Mokopane, Letaba, Mankweng, Tshilidzini, St Ritas, Thabamoopo, Helen Franz, Hayani and Pietersburg. These are shift-based positions, meaning incumbents must be available to work night duty, public holidays and weekends, and must also be willing to work extra hours on short notice. The posts fall under the Occupation Specific Dispensation and carry a rural allowance, in addition to the basic salary. Depending on the facility, candidates must hold a recognised specialty in one of the following areas: advanced midwifery, child nursing science, operating theatre, advanced psychiatry, oncology, trauma or intensive care.

The core purpose of the role is to provide direction and supervision in the implementation of the nursing plan, with a strong focus on clinical practice and quality patient care. Professional nurses appointed to these positions will be expected to implement nursing standards, practices, criteria and indicators that support quality outcomes, and to practise nursing and health care strictly in accordance with the laws and regulations applicable to the profession. This includes compliance with the Nursing Act, the Health Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Patients’ Rights Charter, Batho Pele principles, the Public Service Regulations, the Labour Relations Act, and applicable disciplinary and grievance procedures. Incumbents must also maintain constructive working relationships with nursing colleagues and other stakeholders, and ensure that human, material and physical resources are utilised efficiently and effectively.

In terms of qualifications, applicants must have a National Senior Certificate or Grade 12 or Matric, together with a basic R425 diploma or degree in nursing, or an equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse. In addition, a post-basic nursing qualification in one of the specified specialty areas is required, with a duration of at least one year and accredited by the SANC. Current registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse is essential. For appointment at Grade 1, candidates need a minimum of four years of appropriate or recognisable nursing experience after registration in general nursing. For Grade 2, a minimum of fourteen years of such experience is required, of which at least ten years must have been completed after obtaining the one-year post-basic specialty qualification.

Candidates should demonstrate sound knowledge of nursing care processes and procedures, as well as strong communication, report writing, facilitation, liaison, networking and problem-solving skills. Information management, planning, organising and managerial knowledge are also important, alongside personal attributes such as integrity, professionalism, attention to detail, accountability, reliability, a proactive and results-oriented approach, calmness under pressure, adaptability, diplomacy and the ability to work as part of a team. Successful appointees must be committed to continuous learning and to upholding Batho Pele principles in their daily work. Enquiries may be directed to the contact persons listed in the circular, and interested applicants are reminded to review the full application requirements and closing date as specified in the official advertisement.
