This is a senior nursing leadership position within the Limpopo Department of Health, offering an inclusive remuneration package aligned with the Occupation Specific Dispensation for nursing, plus a rural allowance component. The role is available at three hospitals: Donald Frazer Hospital, Musina Hospital, and Seshego Hospital, with three posts in total. The successful candidates will work shifts and must be prepared for after-hours duty and being on call, reflecting the round-the-clock nature of hospital nursing services.

Applicants must hold a National Senior Certificate or Grade 12 with a basic R425 qualification in nursing, either a diploma or degree, recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority. Current registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse is mandatory, as is a minimum of nine years of appropriate nursing experience after registration, with at least four of those years at a management level. Practical requirements include computer literacy in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, familiarity with virtual meeting platforms, and a valid driver’s licence (with an exemption for people with disabilities). Ideal candidates will bring knowledge of public service and nursing statutes, the Performance Management and Development System, strategic planning, the Public Finance Management Act and Treasury Regulations, Batho Pele principles, the Patients’ Rights Charter, quality assurance systems, and workplace discipline management. Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and research skills, along with knowledge of hospital performance indicators, are also essential.

The core duties centre on providing leadership, guidance, and technical management support to ensure optimal, holistic, and specialised nursing care within professional and legal frameworks. The role requires ensuring adherence to policies and procedures, coordinating training and research to sustain professional growth and ethical standards, and continuously monitoring and evaluating nursing practices and clinical outcomes to deliver cost-effective quality care. The manager will also be responsible for planning and managing human, financial, and physical resources in line with legislation, utilising information technology for accurate data collection and capturing, supporting management, and building constructive relationships with stakeholders. Participation in developing and implementing nursing guidelines, practices, standards, and procedures is another key responsibility.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for this demanding but rewarding post. As part of the public service recruitment process, applicants must submit a fully completed and signed new Z83 form along with a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae, and online submissions must attach the CV as a PDF. All relevant fields in the Z83 should be completed appropriately, with clear guidance provided regarding sections such as business interests, professional registration, and re-appointment conditions. Candidates with foreign qualifications must have them evaluated by SAQA and provide proof thereof. Shortlisted candidates will be called for interviews, where original certified documents will likely be requested. The Department of Health is committed to employment equity, so applicants from designated groups, including persons with disabilities, are encouraged to apply, and it is important to read all conditions and requirements carefully before applying to avoid disqualification.
