This post is for a Senior Clinical Manager at Philadelphia Hospital, a medical grade 1 position within the Limpopo Department of Health. The role represents the hospital's senior clinical leadership post, responsible for leading and managing medical and healthcare services across the hospital's designated geographical service area while ensuring an appropriate continuum of care and effective referral pathways.
The incumbent will ensure clinical governance is upheld, including adherence to clinical guidelines and protocols, and will coordinate the clinical responsibilities of medical practitioners and allied health personnel. This includes the management and implementation of outreach and in-reach services to the surrounding service area. The role also encompasses in-service training and supervision of healthcare providers, participation in the department and hospital's quality improvement programme, ensuring policies and procedures are followed, allocating and managing human and financial resources, monitoring key performance indicators, and planning quality improvement strategies to address identified gaps.
Applicants must hold a qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Medical Practitioner, and must be currently registered with the HPCSA in that category. A minimum of three years' appropriate experience as an Independent Medical Practitioner after registration is required, and experience as head of clinical services will be a distinct advantage. Appointment requires South African citizenship or permanent residence, a valid driver's licence with an exception for people with disabilities, and a willingness to work after hours, be on call, and perform shift work.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge of current health and public service legislation, regulations and policies, sound clinical knowledge, sound medical ethics with emphasis on budget control, a solid background in epidemiology or the demonstrated ability to use health information for planning, and sound knowledge of human resource management and quality assurance programmes.
This is an OSD-graded post with an all-inclusive remuneration package, and a rural allowance is applicable as it is located in an ISRDS node. The position is based at Philadelphia Hospital and is offered on a full-time basis. Shortlisted candidates should note that the selection process includes pre-entry assessments, specifically a practical exercise and an integrity or ethical conduct assessment, with the results scored as an additional criterion during the interview. Applicants with foreign qualifications are responsible for having them evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority and must provide proof of such evaluation. As with all public service posts, the prescribed application requirements must be followed exactly, including the fully completed Z83 form and a comprehensive CV, with certified copies of qualifications, registration, and identity documents required at interview stage. The employing department is the Limpopo Department of Health, and enquiries may be directed to the contact persons listed during office hours.
