This is an administrative clerical post within the Operational Command Centre Secretariat based in Brixton, serving a busy multi-agency environment. The successful candidate will support the secretariat's work in coordinating high-level policing and community safety forums, ensuring that these forums are properly arranged, that deliberations are accurately recorded, and that the resulting decisions and reports are managed efficiently.
The main duties involve effective scribing at forums, faithfully capturing proceedings and decisions; archiving all decisions made so that a clear and retrievable record exists; coordinating the NAT JOINTS, PCCF and POCC forums; communicating decisions to the relevant role-players; and consolidating reports for distribution. The position therefore calls for strong administrative discipline, sound planning and organising abilities, and good interpersonal skills to deal effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
In terms of qualifications, applicants need a Grade 12, Senior Certificate, NCV Level 4 or an equivalent NQF level 4 qualification recognised by SAQA. Relevant courses in the field will serve as an added advantage. Candidates must be South African citizens and must produce documentary proof of citizenship at the interview, and must be proficient in English plus at least one other official language. The required competencies include general computer literacy in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Office, MS PowerPoint and Outlook; the ability to act independently, professionally, accountably and with credibility; sound verbal and written communication skills; strong administrative and problem-solving skills; a customer-focused and responsive attitude; and a willingness to work under pressure and extended hours.
Several special conditions apply to this vacancy. Applications must be submitted on the newly prescribed Z83 form with the relevant sections completed, signed and accompanied by a comprehensive, recently updated CV; only shortlisted candidates will be required to produce certified copies of qualifications, and any foreign qualification must be accompanied by a SAQA evaluation certificate. All shortlisted candidates will undergo two pre-entry assessments, namely a practical exercise and an integrity, or ethical conduct, assessment, and will also be subject to a personnel suitability check covering vetting, criminal record, citizenship, credit record, qualification and employment verification. The department reserves the right not to fill the post or to use alternative recruitment processes, and appointments will be made according to the department's needs. Applications from youth, people with disabilities and the designated groups are encouraged, with applicants with disabilities required to attach a confirmation from a registered medical practitioner. Due to the large volume of applications anticipated, applications will not be acknowledged, and candidates who do not receive any response within three months of the closing date should accept that their application was unsuccessful.
