This role offers an opportunity to work as a Messenger/Driver within the Office of the Chief Financial Officer at the Gauteng Provincial Treasury, based in Johannesburg. The position is essentially a frontline operational support post, ensuring that the provincial treasury’s daily logistics run smoothly. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing driving functions for the department, which includes the delivery and collection of items, providing shuttle services for staff and visitors, and the physical movement of vehicles between locations. Beyond simply driving, the role also carries a general administrative function, meaning the incumbent may be expected to assist with routine office tasks, record-keeping, or other administrative support duties as required. A particularly important responsibility is conducting daily vehicle inspections to ensure that all departmental vehicles are roadworthy, properly maintained, and used in accordance with the prescripts governing the correct utilisation of government motor vehicles.
Candidates wishing to apply must hold a Grade 12 certificate or an equivalent appropriate qualification, supported by one to two years of relevant work experience. A valid driver’s licence is mandatory, as is a Professional Driving Permit (PDP). Basic computer literacy is required, along with a working knowledge of the procedures for operating a motor vehicle, maintaining it correctly, and performing messenger functions. Sound interpersonal skills are also essential, as the role involves interacting with colleagues, management, and possibly members of the public while carrying out deliveries, collections, and shuttle duties. The position is graded according to the Occupation Specific Dispensation (OSD) and offers a benefits package, with the specific salary level indicated in the full advertisement.
The recruitment process for this vacancy is thorough and should be noted carefully by prospective applicants. The application must be submitted using the new Z83 form, fully completed and signed, accompanied by a recently updated comprehensive CV. Only shortlisted candidates will need to provide certified copies of qualifications. If an applicant holds a foreign qualification, it must be accompanied by an evaluation certificate from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). All shortlisted candidates will be required to undertake two pre-entry assessments, one practical exercise and one integrity or ethical conduct assessment, and these will be scored as part of the interview process. Suitable candidates will also undergo a personnel suitability check, which may include vetting, criminal record verification, citizenship checks, credit record checks, qualification verification, and employment verification. The department encourages youth, people with disabilities, and candidates from coloured, Indian, and white population groups to apply, and a confirmation of disability from a registered medical practitioner must be attached if applicable. Given the volume of applications expected, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted; if no response is received within three months of the closing date, applicants should accept that their application was unsuccessful.
