The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development is advertising two Supply Chain Clerk positions within its Financial and Supply Chain Management Services directorate, based in Polokwane, Limpopo. This is an entry-level clerical role at public service level 05, ideal for candidates who are organized, computer literate and able to work effectively within a team. Successful appointees will support the broader supply chain management functions of the department, helping to ensure that all procurement, asset management and logistical processes run smoothly and in line with public service regulations.

Applicants must have a Grade 12 certificate or an equivalent qualification. They should possess basic knowledge of supply chain duties and practices, including the ability to capture data, operate a computer and collect statistics. An understanding of the legislative framework governing the public service and the relevant work procedures is also required. In terms of skills, the department is looking for planning and organisation abilities, strong verbal and written communication, good interpersonal relations and the capacity to work as part of a team.

The duties of the Supply Chain Clerk are varied and cover several areas. Under asset management, the incumbent will provide clerical support by compiling and maintaining asset records and databases, checking and issuing furniture, equipment and accessories to components and individuals, identifying redundant, non-serviceable and obsolete equipment for disposal, and verifying the asset register. In the demand and acquisition area, the clerk will update and maintain a supplier database, register suppliers on LOGIS or a similar system, request and receive quotations, capture specifications on the electronic purchasing system, place orders, issue and receive bid documents, and provide secretariat or logistical support during bid consideration and contract processes. The role also includes compiling draft documents as required.

Logistical support duties form a significant part of the job. The clerk will place orders for goods, receive and verify goods delivered by suppliers, capture goods into registers and databases, receive requests for goods from end users, issue goods to them, and maintain the goods register. Updating and maintaining the register of suppliers remains an ongoing responsibility. These functions require attention to detail, accuracy and a customer-service orientation, as the clerk will regularly interact with internal staff, suppliers and other stakeholders.

Notable information regarding these posts includes an employment equity target that favours African, Coloured and Indian males, Coloured, Indian and White females, and persons with disabilities, which should be taken into account by prospective applicants in line with the department's affirmative action commitments. The vacancy is advertised via the public service circular and, as such, interested candidates must follow the official application procedures and ensure they submit their applications before the closing date. For those seeking further clarity on the position, the full advertisement lists a designated contact person for enquiries. This is a great opportunity for a candidate with the requisite administrative and computer skills to begin or further a career in public sector supply chain management.
