This position, based at the National Head Office within the Logistics directorate, offers an experienced professional the opportunity to oversee the provisioning administration system, specifically the LOGIS platform, which underpins the department’s supply chain and logistical operations. As an Assistant Director, the incumbent will act as a system custodian and compliance enforcer, ensuring that all logistical transactions, store codes, and user functions are correctly configured and aligned with departmental policies and National Treasury standards. The role is central to maintaining the integrity of the logistics function, from opening and completing prescribed files each financial year to conducting system inspections and supporting physical store audits. It also involves managing the implementation of logistics policy, monitoring the LOGIS Balance Score Card, and identifying areas for improvement in line with Treasury expectations. In addition, the position carries managerial responsibilities for human resources, finance, assets, and performance information, making it a multifaceted leadership role within the public service environment.

Candidates must hold a relevant degree or national diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Public Administration, coupled with three to five years of supervisory experience. A thorough working knowledge of the LOGIS system is essential, as is computer literacy and a valid driver’s licence. The role demands a solid understanding of the Public Finance Management Act, Treasury Regulations, operational and strategic plans, the Public Administration Service Act, and the White Paper on transforming public service delivery. Familiarity with relevant policies, manuals, and circulars is also required. Beyond technical knowledge, the successful applicant will demonstrate strong communication, planning, organising, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, along with the capacity to liaise effectively both internally and externally. Personal attributes such as honesty, integrity, commitment, creativity, logical thinking, and innovativeness are equally important for this position.

The core duties revolve around the day-to-day management and oversight of the LOGIS system. This includes ensuring that all prescribed files are opened, completed, and signed per financial year; maintaining store-specific codes; and correctly allocating functions to system users. The Assistant Director will undertake LOGIS logistical inspections, assist with physical inspections at stores, and ensure that all users follow established procedures. A key responsibility is monitoring the LOGIS Balance Score Card and ensuring that all transactions are cleared promptly. The role also requires facilitating adherence to logistical processes and policies, thereby promoting compliance across the department. Additionally, the incumbent will manage human resources, finance, assets, and performance information, ensuring that the unit operates efficiently and in accordance with public service regulations. Appointment to this post is made under the Public Service Act, reflecting its status within the broader government framework. This is an ideal opportunity for a logistics professional seeking to apply their supervisory experience and system expertise in a structured, compliance-driven environment.
