This position offers an opportunity to shape and strengthen internal communication within a government department at its National Head Office. As Assistant Director: Internal Communication, you will be part of the Internal Communication and Media Production directorate, playing a key supervisory role in ensuring that employees are informed, engaged, and aligned with the department's goals and service delivery priorities. The role is ideal for a communication professional with proven leadership experience who can manage both the strategic and operational sides of internal communication.

To be considered, you need a recognised degree or national diploma in Communication, Journalism, or a relevant qualification, coupled with three to five years' experience at a supervisory level in the communication sector. A valid driver's licence and computer literacy are essential. The department is looking for someone who can demonstrate a thorough understanding of an institution's internal communication needs, and who has a track record of conceptualising, executing, and measuring the effectiveness of internal communication channels and messages. You must have proven experience in writing and editing articles, with an excellent command of written and spoken English. Experience with or a thorough understanding of a Content Management System (CMS) for intranet or internet will be an advantage. The role demands the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, as well as a willingness to travel and work overtime when required.

Your main duties will include assisting with the management of the department's intranet, managing and improving the daily system of internal notices, and writing, editing, and proofreading internal communication messages. You will also be responsible for developing feedback mechanisms to objectively measure how effective internal communication channels and messages are, and for regularly monitoring their intended reach and impact against communication objectives and strategy. This includes compiling reports on those findings. You will need to build networks and partnerships within the department to help ensure optimal coverage of defining moments of service delivery for internal communication purposes. In addition, the role carries management responsibilities for human resources, finance, and assets within the unit.

This is a supervisory position that requires a high level of reliability, honesty, integrity, and attention to detail. You must be punctual, maintain confidentiality, and act with tact and discretion at all times. Strong planning and organisational skills, service delivery orientation, and excellent written and verbal communication are also key attributes. The post is appointed under the Public Service Act, and the successful candidate will be based at the National Head Office. The role offers a chance to contribute meaningfully to internal communication in the public service. If you are a proactive communicator who can coordinate work tasks effectively and build relationships across the department, this position provides a platform to make a real difference.
