This position is for a Security Manager focused on Development Support at the Kroonstad Training College, operating within the broader Correctional Services environment. The role sits at a CB4 supervisory level and is specifically responsible for integrating security management with the operational and developmental needs of a correctional training facility. In this capacity, the incumbent will act as a bridge between custodial oversight and the administrative, logistical and academic support functions that keep the college running effectively. This is not a purely administrative role; it requires a firm grounding in correctional practice, a commitment to humane detention standards, and the ability to manage people, resources and compliance under the Correctional Services Act.

The successful candidate must hold a relevant Degree or National Diploma at NQF Level 6 in Behavioural Sciences, and have successfully completed the Corrections Science Learnership or basic training. At least seven years of relevant experience in a supervisory post at CB3 level is required. Registration and accreditation as an Assessor and Moderator will be an added advantage, as the role involves official assessment and moderation administration. Candidates must be computer literate, possess a valid driver’s licence, and be willing to travel. A deep understanding of safety and security in a correctional environment is essential, along with knowledge of the Correctional Services Act, Act 111 of 1998, as amended. The role also demands strong competencies in firearm skills and security technology, communication, project and programme management, problem solving, decision making, people management, transformation and stakeholder management, assertiveness, diplomacy, networking, strategic thinking, and client-oriented service delivery.

The duties of this position are broad and fall into several key areas. From a training and development support perspective, the Security Manager will procure and allocate training resources, manage sub-inventory registers, ensure the availability of stationery and training material, and oversee the resource centre. The role also involves managing training-related administration and facilities, ensuring keys and registers are available, and maintaining hygienic conditions in line with Occupational Health and Safety standards. A major component is the registration of learners with SASSETA, checking learner qualifications and identification, and coordinating the submission of Portfolio of Evidence files after moderation. The incumbent will also assist with internal and external verification, manage record-keeping and confidentiality, register Assessors and Moderators with SASSETA, provide continuous support and guidance to learners, render learner support, and duplicate assessment tools.

On the security side, the role requires supervision of custodial duties, signing for and receiving security equipment, conducting counting and confirming of offender totals, recording and reporting incidents, and facilitating rehabilitation programmes. The Security Manager will also register, handle and refer inmates’ complaints and requests, and ensure that internal and external custodial duties are conducted in a humane and secure correctional or remand detention environment. This includes performing administrative duties related to custodial work and handling emergency situations as they arise. The position also carries management responsibilities: attending OHS meetings, compiling monthly progress reports, managing performance information, and overseeing human resources, finance and assets. Appointment to this post is made under the Correctional Services Act, and candidates should be prepared for a role that combines strategic oversight with hands-on operational involvement in a correctional training setting.
