This position, based at the National Head Office, supports the Department of Correctional Services in its mission to successfully reintegrate offenders back into society. As an Assistant Director specialising in measurement and tracking within the Community Liaison directorate, the incumbent plays a pivotal role in designing, monitoring and evaluating the systems that support offender re-entry. The post is graded at the NCB3 level, offering a senior supervisory role focused on ensuring that policy implementation, service delivery and stakeholder involvement all align with the goal of reducing re-offending and building safer communities. The role operates within the broader framework of the Correctional Services Act, Act 111 of 1998, and is an appointment made under the Correctional Services Act.
Candidates must hold a relevant Degree or National Diploma at NQF level 6 in Behavioural Sciences, combined with a minimum of five years’ experience in a supervisory post at the NCB 2 level. Successful completion of the Corrections Science Learnership or Basic Training is a firm requirement. A top secret security classification is considered an added advantage, while computer literacy and a valid driver’s licence are essential. The role demands a well-rounded professional skill set, including assertiveness, strong networking and liaison abilities, report writing, negotiation, facilitation, presentation, project management, and stakeholder management. In addition, sound problem-solving, analytical and research skills, decision-making capability, people management, integrity, honesty, confidentiality and good interpersonal relations are all expected attributes for the successful candidate.
The core duties are centred on facilitating the re-entry of offenders into the community by actively involving internal and external stakeholders. The Assistant Director will monitor and evaluate policy implementation, specifically identifying areas of concern with regard to offender reintegration, and will work to enhance the successful transition of released offenders back into society. A significant part of the role involves designing monitoring tools to evaluate the services rendered by service providers to released offenders, ensuring that these services are effective and accountable. Marketing and liaison with stakeholders is also key, as is the management of performance information, finances, human resources and assets within the unit.
This is a demanding but rewarding role for a dedicated corrections professional who is passionate about rehabilitation and community safety. The position offers an opportunity to shape reintegration outcomes at a national level, working within a structured government environment. As with all posts in this sector, the appointment is subject to the Correctional Services Act and the successful candidate will be expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality and public service.
