This position is for an Administration Clerk focused on Traffic Law Exemptions and Permits within the Western Cape Mobility Department, part of the Western Cape Government. The role provides essential administrative support to the section responsible for processing and managing applications related to traffic law exemptions and permits. It is an entry-level clerical post, meaning the successful candidate will be expected to handle a broad range of routine but important administrative tasks that keep the unit functioning efficiently and in line with relevant legislation.
To be considered, applicants must have Grade 12 or an equivalent Senior Certificate. The role requires sound knowledge of clerical duties and administrative practices, data capturing, computer systems, and the collection and maintenance of statistics. Familiarity with the legislative framework governing the Public Service is important, as is the ability to manage applications in accordance with traffic legislation. Candidates should be able to plan and organise their own activities, use computer systems effectively, and communicate clearly in writing and verbally in the required language. The department also values interpersonal skills, flexibility, teamwork, and the ability to perform routine tasks accurately. Since the workload can be demanding, the successful candidate must be able to work under pressure, operate office equipment, work irregular hours when required, and meet tight deadlines.
The main duties include rendering general clerical support services to the section, as well as providing supply chain clerical support, personnel administration clerical support, and financial administration support. In practice, this means the incumbent will be involved in capturing and processing information, maintaining records and statistics, assisting with procurement and supply chain processes, supporting human resource administration, and helping with financial administration tasks. The work must be carried out in line with departmental procedures and the applicable legislative framework, particularly traffic legislation governing exemptions and permits.
There are several important conditions attached to this vacancy. Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend interviews on a date determined by the department and must submit duly completed and signed vetting and supporting documentation within a specified timeframe before the interview. Failure to do so without reasonable justification may result in disqualification from the process. All shortlisted candidates will also undergo two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise testing technical and generic suitability for the post, and an integrity assessment relating to ethical conduct. The selection process will be guided by the employment equity targets of the employing department. By applying, candidates consent to the Western Cape Government contacting previous employers or managers for reference checks, which will include enquiries about disciplinary records and reasons for leaving. This post is advertised through the public service vacancy circular, and any queries about the position can be directed to the contact person listed in the advertisement.
