The Western Cape Government’s Department of the Premier is seeking a diligent and organised Supply Chain Management Clerk to provide clerical support within its acquisition and contract management environment. This entry-level position forms part of the broader supply chain management unit, where the successful candidate will help ensure that the department procures goods and services efficiently, transparently, and in line with the legislative framework governing the Public Service. Working within a structured administrative environment, the clerk will contribute to the smooth running of the supply chain process, from initial demand planning through to asset management and logistical support, thereby enabling the department to deliver on its mandate effectively.

Applicants must hold a Grade 12 Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification. The role requires a basic understanding of supply chain duties and practices, including the ability to capture data, operate a computer, and collect statistics. Familiarity with the legislative framework governing the Public Service and with standard work procedures in the working environment is also essential. In terms of personal and professional skills, the ideal candidate should demonstrate strong numeracy, literacy, and language abilities, as well as sound job knowledge, communication skills, and good interpersonal relations. Flexibility, teamwork, computer proficiency, and planning and organisational skills are equally important, along with good verbal and written communication skills.

The main duties of the position are varied and centre on four key areas of supply chain support. In asset management, the clerk will provide clerical assistance in maintaining asset registers, tracking asset movements, and supporting the overall control of departmental assets. In demand management, the role involves assisting with the consolidation of procurement needs, supporting the planning process, and helping to ensure that requests are accurately documented. In acquisition management, the clerk will support the processing of purchase requisitions, quotations, and orders, while ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures. Finally, logistical support services form part of the role, including receiving, distributing, and recording goods and services, as well as assisting with related administrative tasks to ensure that the supply chain function operates without interruption.

This is a Level 05 position within the public service, with a salary package as indicated in the vacancy advertisement. Only applications submitted through the official online application platform will be considered, and technical support for the system is available during business hours. The selection process will be guided by the employment equity targets of the employing department, and all shortlisted candidates must be available for an interview at a date and time determined by the selection panel. Reference checks will be conducted, including enquiries relating to disciplinary records and reasons for leaving previous employment. Shortlisted candidates will also be required to submit duly completed vetting and supporting documentation within a specified timeframe; failure to do so may result in exclusion from further consideration. Given the high volume of applications received, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and applicants who do not receive feedback within ten weeks of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful.
