This vacancy is for a Staff Nurse Grade 1 to 3 based at Moorreesburg Clinic within the Swartland Sub-district of the West Coast District, operating under the Western Cape Department of Health. The role forms part of the Primary Health Care (PHC) service delivery team, providing essential nursing care to the local community. The post is advertised at three grades, allowing candidates with different levels of experience to apply, with progression based on years of appropriate nursing service after registration.

To be considered, applicants must hold a qualification that permits registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Staff Nurse, and must be registered with the SANC in that capacity. For appointment at Grade 1, no prior nursing experience is required. Grade 2 requires a minimum of ten years of appropriate and recognizable nursing experience after SANC registration as a Staff Nurse. Grade 3 requires at least twenty years of such experience. In addition to these formal requirements, the successful candidate must be willing to work overtime when necessary. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is basic computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. A working knowledge of the relevant legislation and policies of the Western Cape Department of Health is also expected.

The core duties of the post involve providing basic clinical nursing care to patients, developing and implementing basic patient care plans, and ensuring the effective utilization of available resources. The nurse is also expected to maintain professional growth, uphold ethical standards, and engage in self-development. Community participation is a key component of the role, reflecting the PHC focus of the clinic and the district.

The selection process will be guided by the employment equity targets of the employing department. By applying, candidates consent to the Western Cape Government contacting previous employers or managers for reference checks, which will include enquiries about disciplinary records and reasons for leaving. Shortlisted candidates must be available for interviews at a date, time, and place determined by the selection panel, and will be required to submit duly completed and signed vetting and supporting documentation within the timeframe communicated by the Western Cape Government. Failure to provide these documents within the prescribed period, without reasonable justification, may result in disqualification from the process. The successful candidate will be subject to security vetting and will need to disclose financial interests. As the department receives a high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted; applicants who do not hear within ten weeks of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful. The broader circular also includes standard provisions for SMS-level posts, but the conditions described above apply to this Staff Nurse vacancy.
