This position is for an Administration Clerk specialising in transport support within the Support Services component at Tygerberg Hospital in Parow Valley. The role is central to keeping the hospital’s government motor transport fleet operational, compliant, and well-documented. As part of a broader support services team, the clerk will work under supervision but is expected to take accountability and work independently when needed. The post is graded according to the Occupation Specific Dispensation (OSD) for administration clerks, and the successful candidate will be expected to rotate to other departments within the support service component if operational needs arise.
To be considered, applicants must hold a Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification. Relevant experience in transport and support services is essential, along with a valid Code B driver’s licence. The role demands a solid working knowledge of the legislative framework governing the Public Service, including Human Resource Management practices and labour legislation. Specific familiarity with Transport Circular 4 of 2000 and the Government Motor Transport Handbook Version 1 of 2019 is required, as is knowledge of the PERMIS/SPMS system used for fleet and performance management. Candidates should also be proficient in MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook, and possess strong administrative skills, including the ability to apply policies and procedures accurately. Good interpersonal and organisational skills are vital, as is the capacity to function under pressure, maintain confidentiality, and communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms. Sober habits and a responsible attitude are inherent requirements, along with safe driving skills and the ability to inspect vehicles for defects and routine maintenance needs.
The core duties revolve around providing an effective administrative service to the Support Services component. This includes managing the fleet by ensuring all vehicles are roadworthy, clean, regularly serviced, and inspected. The clerk will capture odometer readings and log sheets for audit purposes, record all accident reports, and maintain various registers. Another important responsibility is assisting the supervisor in preventing and reporting the misuse of Government Motor Transport, as well as supporting fraud investigations. The role also involves the effective control and ordering of stock and equipment. Candidates should be prepared for a possible practical test as part of the selection process. Importantly, no payment of any kind is required when applying for this post, and all applications must be submitted through the official online portal for Western Cape government jobs. This is a full-time public service position based at a major hospital, offering the opportunity to contribute to the efficient and accountable use of state transport resources.
