This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the financial operations of a public healthcare facility within the Western Cape Government’s Metro Health Services. Based at New Somerset Hospital, the Administration Clerk: Finance plays a central role in the day-to-day financial management of the hospital, working within the broader Finance and Supply Chain Management component. The role is focused on ensuring that payments, creditor accounts, and asset and liability records are handled accurately, timeously, and in full compliance with the regulatory framework governing public finance. As such, the incumbent will be expected to work closely with internal departments, suppliers, and management to maintain financial integrity and support the smooth running of hospital services.

The core responsibilities revolve around the capturing and processing of payments through the Logis and BAS financial systems, ensuring that every transaction is supported by complete, accurate, and valid documentation. This includes batching and filing supporting documents, reconciling monthly creditor statements, and remitting payments in a timely manner. The clerk will also be responsible for monitoring and clearing asset and liability accounts, producing monthly reports, and processing journals to correct any misallocated expenditure. A key part of the role is ensuring that all expenditure is allocated to the correct Standard Chart of Accounts (SCOA) codes, in line with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), National Treasury Regulations, Provincial Treasury Instructions, and departmental finance instructions and circulars. In addition to these technical duties, the position requires resolving supplier and management queries promptly and providing general assistance and support within the finance and supply chain teams.

To be considered, applicants must hold a Senior Certificate or equivalent, with Mathematics or Accountancy as a passed subject. Alternatively, candidates without these specific subjects may qualify if they have relevant experience or competencies that directly address the key performance areas of the post. Demonstrated experience in financial management is essential, with a particular focus on creditor management and asset and liability accounting. The role demands strong computer literacy, numerical ability, and the capacity to interpret and apply financial policies and instructions. Systematic thinking and a high level of attention to detail are also crucial, as is a willingness to work overtime when required.

Candidates should note that this is a structured recruitment process. No payment of any kind is required when applying, and shortlisted applicants will be subjected to a written or practical assessment as well as an oral interview. This ensures that successful candidates possess the necessary technical and analytical skills to handle the financial responsibilities of the post. The position offers a stable career path within the provincial health administration, ideal for individuals who are meticulous, policy-driven, and committed to supporting public service delivery through sound financial administration.
